The Spring Ranch Property is a little-known gem in Van Damme State Park. It’s a great place to get outside and walk around as there are several miles of flat trails and old road tracks to explore on the coastal property between the towns of Mendocino and Little River. The rest of the shoreline below this property is an inter-tidal rock shelf that is excellent for tidepooling and viewing marine mammals like seals if they are present.

One of our favorite coastal hikes. You can walk and take in the expansive scenery for 30 minutes, or a couple of hours. On the west side of HWY 1 there are two access points that you can take to a trail along the coast. Either park directly across from the Spring Ranch house and head toward the water, or pullout directly across from Gordon Lane. Either way, there are often few people on this trail. There is a small beach that is typically accessible, more so during low tide. There are often seals on the far north end of the trail, and sometimes to the south. Keep your eyes peeled for the resident coyote....
