Reputedly the best beach for fossil hunting. You can join a guided fossil walk or go it alone! Its shingle & dog friendly, and although its considered safe beware as there is no lifeguard on duty

13 miles: Spend a day on this quiet stretch of the West Dorset coast where you can take a walk across the cliff tops above Ringstead, bring a kite, or pack a picnic and follow one of the steep ancient tracks down to the shingle beach. The water is incredibly clear and safe for bathing. Part of the Jurassic coastline, on a fine day there are great views across Weymouth Bay to Portland.

A quiet pebbled beach accessible from a car park and cafe. Drive there or walk (3 mile looping round trip) from the 'Shed'. See the map in the 'Shed'. Take a kite, or pack a picnic and watch kite-surfers when the winds are high. The water is incredibly clear and safe for bathing. Part of the Jurassic coastline, on a fine day there are great views across Weymouth Bay to Portland. If you walk up the hill from the cafe out to White Nothe, you will pass above Burning Cliff which once caught fire due its composition of oil shale and iron pyorites. 5 miles (8km) east of Weymouth with access from A353 through Upton village Paid parking by the beach.

A 20 minute drive from where you’re staying, Ringstead is a pebble beach and a nice change from Weymouth Beach if you want to get away from the town. You can park at the top of the hill for free and enjoy the walk down but a word of warning - it is quite steep on the way back up so pack light! It’s a popular spot for paragliders which makes for good spectating.

Stunning scenery, it’s quiet and most tourists don’t know about it. You’d have to cycle there and see the sights for yourself x a great pub nearby called the smugglers
