Lake Shenandoah is a 36 acre impoundment owned by the Department of Wildlife Resources. The lake is located in Rockingham County near the City of Harrisonburg, providing a unique outdoor experience within an urban setting. Much of the lake is shallow (less than 3 feet) and the maximum depth near the dam is 25 feet. Anglers have the opportunity to catch largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, common carp, channel catfish and musky from Lake Shenandoah.

Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources manages this lovely lake, known as a good fishing spot. It's parking area is scenic for a picnic but to to use the boat ramp (non-motorized only), or take the wildflower, marsh walk, it's fee-based; that just means you have to have a current Virginia fishingnor hunting license. It seems they have boat rentals but not every day, all day. Seek info online.

Lake Shenandoah is a gorgeous, semi-hidden gem. It's the best combination of a comfortable walk and a light hike. This is a great spot to have a picnic or to go on a walk with your pup. Fishing is also allowed, but you must have a fishing license.
