The park was established in 1938 and consists of stands of loblolly pines mixed with post oak and juniper trees.
You won't expect the piney woods in Texas, but this is a must see all year round!
Bastrop State park is a great place for a hike and a good reason to head to the beautiful city of Bastrop. A large portion of the park burned in 2011. It is great to hike through the young trees and enjoy some great views and historical park buildings. Make sure to have sturdy shoes and water! You might want to grab lunch at Neighbors after your hike. The view of the Colorado river is fantastic. The food is great too!
