Claytons Beach is good for walking along as well as a popular surf spot. Swimming is not recommended as there are rips that run along the beach. There have been several deaths from swimmers getting caught in the rips. The beach is not patrolled by Surf Rescue. It is best to stay closer to the car park where the surfers are if you want to swim or bodyboard rather than entering the water away from others.
