This national forest covers more than 1.6 million acres in New Mexico, with elevations ranging from 2700 ft to over 11,300 ft. There are 4 wildernesses contained within the forest: the Sandia Mountains, Manzano Mountain, Withington, & Apache Kid. There are several scenic drives as well as downhill skiing available at the Sandia Peak Ski area. Located on the east side of Sandia Mountains. 7 mins
