The Dagshai Jail Museum or Dagshai Central Jail in India was built in 1847. It is T-shaped building of local stone masonry with 54 tiny cells, out of which 16 cells were used for severe punishments. Apart from the Cellular Jail in the Andamans, it is the only other Indian museum which once was a jail.
Built by the British in 1849, this jail is the second cellular jail of India other than the one in Andaman islands. It has 54 small cells that were used to house the Indian/Irish/Gorkha soldiers who rebelled against the British and were later executed here only. The museum's exhibits mostly consist of pictures and militaria. If one is interested in Indian-British history then a visit to this jail is definitely worthwhile. Please check timings before planning a visit to the museum.
