Hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing and swimming are the main tourist attractions at the 5,000-acre Yankee Springs State Recreation Area that boasts nine lakes, including Gun Lake. Rent a boat or personal watercraft and get on the water or drop in a line from one of the fishing piers. One of the more interesting geological phenomenons is the Devil’s Soup Bowl, a "kettle formation" formed by glacial runoff. Overnight accommodations include a modern campground or rustic camping -- including a bike and equestrian camp. If you visit in winter, there are 30 miles of trails for snowshoeing or cross-country skiing, and ice fishing on the lakes.

For the outdoorsy people, this is a great area for hiking. There are many different easy to moderate hiking trails that offer views of different small lakes.
Yankee Springs Rec Area contains more than 5,000 acres of rugged terrain, bog, marshes, lakes and streams. It is located right by Gun Lake, with a surface area of 2,680 acres, and has several hiking trails and mountain biking trails. There is a map in the cabin for your viewing!
