Westminster Abbey is a community of Benedictine monks in Mission, British Columbia, established in 1939 from the Abbey of Mount Angel, Oregon. The abbey is home to the Seminary of Christ the King and is a member of the Swiss American Congregation within the Benedictine Confederation.
Perhaps Mission’s most famous landmark, this beautiful monastery attracts thousands of visitors annually. The Benedictine monks who inhabit the Abbey have created a self-sufficient pastoral lifestyle at this inspiring location, and welcome visitors to their grounds and for services. Its most distinctive feature is the abbey church and its tower with a ring of 10 bells (which you just may hear). The views from the Abbey seem to stretch forever, providing a panoramic view of the Fraser Valley. Westminster Abbey is about a 180 metre elevation above the Fraser River. If one is looking for a challenge, you can reach the monastery via the Hail Mary trail, which is the first trail off Heritage Park East Greenway entrance.
