Samara Flag Monument is one of the most important military symbols of the Bulgarian Army. Sewed by local nuns and given to the Bulgarian volunteers in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 by citizens of the Russian city of Samara on 18 May 1877, it became famous when it was heroically prevented from being captured by the Ottoman forces in the Battle of Stara Zagora, with many soldiers, perishing while protecting it from the enemy. The Flag Monument of Stara Zagora is a concrete replica of the Samara flag and commemorates the deaths of Bulgarian soldiers in the Russo-Turkish War of 1977-78.

Паметникът изобразява Самарското знаме - един от най-важните военни символи на България, определен като национална светиня. Заедно с 50-метровата структура на знамето, на вечна стража пред него стоят и фигурите на шестима опълченци и руски офицер. Изкачвайки стълбите до горе, пред вас ще се разкрият красиви панорамни гледки към Стара Загора. Мемориален комплекс „Бранителите на Стара Загора“ е включен е в списъка на Стоте национални туристически обекта на Българския туристически съюз.
