The Canterbury and Whitstable Railway (fondly known as the Crab and Winkle) was the first passenger railway in the South of UK and featured the oldest tunnel and railway bridge in the world. It was closed in 1952 and now makes for a great cycle ride or walk. You can hire bikes locally at the end of Harbour Street from Kent Cycle Hire and have an extensive knowledge of all the varying levels of routes for all levels of riders. You can cycle from Whitstable to Canterbury (about 7 miles) along the historic Crab & Winkle Way, passing the winding pond through woodland paths. You can also park in Clowes Wood car park and take a gentle walk through the woods.
