Lugares para ficar em Slaughter Beach
Our home sits right on the beach with a wildlife refuge just behind our house. Not your typical beach house decor. This is a sophisticated home furnished in the mid century modern / contemporary style. PLEASE NOTE- We have two very sweet Greyhounds. If you have pet allergies we may not be the best choice for you.
Our home is an open floor plan on the first floor with a deck and a screened in porch. Both the deck and the screened in porch face the bay. The upstairs consists of two guest rooms each with a queen sized bed. There is a full bath shared by the room bedrooms that can secured for privacy by either of the guest rooms..
While you are visiting Slaughter Beach, here are some options nearby: Slaughter Beach- From the Slaughter Beach town website: Slaughter Beach was founded in 1681 and incorporated in 1931. How Slaughter Beach got its name has been debated over the years. Early maps show a small creek named Slaughter Creek, which flowed through the marsh from the Cedar Creek south and emptied into the Delaware Bay just north of Prime Hook Beach. Just to the southwest of the town is an area called “Slaughter Neck”. Neck was/is a term used to describe upland areas between two key boundary areas. Another theory is the first postmaster for this locality had the last name of Slaughter. The naming of Slaughter Beach has two more colorful stories. In the spring and early summer horseshoe crabs come ashore to spawn. Wave action flips the crabs over where they are left to die in the hot sun, thus the “Slaughter of the Crabs.” The most colorful story has to be of Indians attacking early settlers in the area. Upon hearing the news, the leader of the settlers arranged a meeting on the beach with the Indian Chief so the settlers “God” could “speak” to the Indians and make peace. The leader had the Indians gather around their “God”, a cannon, and fired the cannon killing all the Indians – thus the “Slaughter of the Indians.” Like the naming of Slaughter Beach, the town has gone through many changes. Slaughter Beach in the early years was primarily a resort for Milford area residents during the summer months. In its hey-day, Slaughter Beach had a dance hall, hotels and a boardwalk. With the advance of the automobile and road systems, more and more people started traveling to the Rehoboth area and Slaughter Beach turned into a sleepy little seasonal fishing village. Present day Slaughter Beach has a full time population of 198 people with a much higher summertime population. Slaughter Beach also has become much more of a year-round community for part time residents looking to escape for brief periods from the “real world.” The following was posted by Debi on Eat Sleep Travel Repeat. It is an excellent overview of Slaughter Beach. I know the name sounds scary. But the beach is beautiful. The town, and beach, was founded in 1681. There is a lot of talk over how Slaughter beach truly got its name. Some old maps show a small creek named, Slaughter Creek, which flowed from through the marsh of Cedar Creek south and emptied into the Delaware bay just north of Prime Hook Beach. There is also a town called “Slaughter Neck”, Neck being a term that is used to describe upland areas between two key boundary areas. There is another theory is the first postmaster, whose last name was Slaughter, and the town was named for his locality. There are 2 more colorful stories about how Slaughter Beach got its name. The most unsettling story of the beach’s name has to be of the Indians attacking early settlers in the area. When the leader of the settlers heard of the attack, the leader of the settlers arranged a meeting with the Indian Chief so the settlers’ “God” could “speak” to the Indians and there could be peace. So as the Indians gathered around a cannon, the Settlers’ “God”, the settlers fired the cannon and killed all of the Native Americans. It was the “Slaughter of the Indians.” Most likely, or I would like to believe, the name of the town came from the horseshoe crabs. Every Spring and early Summer, the horseshoe crabs come ashore to spawn. The waves often flip the crabs over, leaving them stranded. The crabs then die in the hot sun. And it is the “Slaughter of the Crabs” Now Slaughter Beach is A Horseshoe Crab Sanctuary and A Certified Wildlife Habitat Community. SEASONAL ITEMS OF INTEREST: (FROM THE VISITOR INFORMATION OF SLAUGHTER BEACH) •April/May: Baby Diamondback Terrapin Hatchlings have been emerging and moving from bay side to the marsh. Keep an eye out as they cross the road. If you find one move it to the marsh side of the road. •May/June/July: Female Diamondback Terrapins will start nesting activity in the coming months. The females will leave the marsh and start looking for sandy areas to nest in. This means a dangerous crossing of Bay Ave. Please keep an eye out for them. If you find and move it, please make sure you send her in the direction she was going. •April/May/June: Shore Birds are returning. Please disturb them as little as possible, they have come a great distance to feed and fatten up before flying north to nest. •May/June/July/August: Horseshoe Crabs will be returning usually starting in May and lingering through August. The heaviest concentration is usually in late May through June. If you see one flipped on its back, just roll turn it over. Never pick it up by the tail and if you find a tagged one, please do not remove the tag and report the information following the directions on the tag. Volunteers are needed for the spawning survey, if your are interested see Bill or Rose at the S.B. Mini Mart. •September/October: Fall migration of the Shore Birds and Monarch Butterflies. Present day Slaughter Beach has a full time population of 198 people with a much higher summertime population. This home is a bay/beach front home allowing for loads of activities. The small lapping waves are easy for young ones to negotiate and wade while enjoying the water. The Cedar Creek Marina, with access to the Mispillion River leading to the Delaware Bay, is just minutes away and can be contacted for fishing trips. There is also a FREE public boat launch across the river on Lighthouse Road which is run by the Department of Parks and Recreation. Only a six minute drive on Lighthouse Road or 15 minute bike ride. There are numerous public access parking areas all along the two miles of the main road, Bay Avenue, (ANY named road has public beaches). The beach next to the Fire Dept. has restrooms and a new shaded picnic gazebo. There is a children's playground along with tennis and basketball courts next just across from the main beach. Next door is the Fire House which occasionally has events. Biking and roller blading is a favorite activity on Bay Avenue since there are no cross streets, so it is relatively safe. Please feel free to bring your own bikes. Keep in mind, Delaware requires children to wear helmets. Take a long walk on the uncrowded strand or jog the main Bay Avenue. Fishing, sea glass and shell collecting and a yearly regatta for small boats is held every July 4th. Slaughter Beach is a world famous birding habitat. You can marvel at the hundreds of bird species including the endangered Red Knot as they stop to feed on Horse Shoe crab eggs on their way north. Most people thrill at the spectacle while others are a little horrified by the crab's primitive looks. They are completely harmless but can cause the water's edge to be a littered with their shells. Watch for the just hatched baby turtles headed to the Marvel Preserve just behind us in early summer. Slaughter Beach is surrounded by preserves to all three non water sides and Eagles can be seen nesting at the south end. The quaint town of Lewes, Delaware is a short drive of 15 minutes in the off season. Also don't miss hip Rehoboth Beach (25 miles) which is about a half hour drive in the off season and longer on crowded summer weekends. Movies at Midway are only 15 minutes on Route 1. Please note: Slaughter Beach is perfect for nature lovers and anyone that is looking for beauty and a place to give yourself peace of mind. This is a rustic area which can be remote and deserted feeling for some folks. Bed Linens, towels and basic supplies such as soap are all included. The kitchen is well equipped with dishes, silverware, spices etc. but naturally you will need to bring your food for meals. Also included are a washer and dryer, microwave, electric stove, drip coffee maker, central heating and air conditioning, dishwasher and refrigerator and outdoor gas grill. There is an outdoor shower to rinse off sand and salt. Flat screen/smartTV with basic cable service, Blue Ray player, radio, CD player and secure internet. Kids games and sand toys. Favorite Slaughter Beach past-times include: walking the beach in the mornings, relaxing on the beach or deck, bicycling, sailing, evening beach bonfires and exploring all the nearby amenities that come with Lewes and Rehoboth Beach resorts. Watch sunsets from the front porch and sunrises from the back deck facing the bay. Check-out @ 10:00am Check-in @ 4:00pm. Minutes out of downtown Milford, but feels like the country. Convenient to Dover AFB, Dover Downs, Dover, Raceway, Rehoboth and Lewes beaches and shopping. The lot is heavily wooded and faces a corn field. Heated mattress pad for cozy winter sleeping. Sitting chair, living room access, and sun room is available for a quiet place to work. Starting March 11, 2020 - PUPPY! It has plusses and downsides. I plan on sleeping in sun rom away from guests if nighttime fussing materializes.
Guest self-check-in with keypad lock if I'm not here. Check in after 9:00 pm only by prior arrangement with me. Message me with your reason for being late, please.
It's generally a peaceful country road, with little traffic, yet just off of Delaware Route 1. Wooded lot in subdivision equally quiet. We have a couple of neighborhood roosters. I like hearing from them in the morning.

Beach front home located in secluded Prime Hook Beach DE. Feel the hectic world fall away as you drive through the scenic Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck with the sunrise or a glass of wine in the evening watching the sunset. Activities such as birding, fishing or walks on a quiet beach right at your feet. Nearby is Dogfish Head Brewing Co., DE Turf Sports, Tanger Outlets, De State Fairgrounds, Historic Milton, Lewes, and Rehoboth Beach.
This season, since we had so many requests for nature watch/sightseeing cruises and fishing trips with Capt. Jack on our boat, we are offering them at reduced rates to our guests! The cruises offer spectacular bird watching opportunities particularly during the spring horseshoe crab season with birds such as oyster catchers, ruddy turnstones and others flashing by before they turn in unison, practically brushing the bow of the boat! Dolphin sightings are commonplace around the inlet, and the sunsets with the osprey chirping from their nests are spectacular! Short fishing trips offering light tackle bottom fishing in the Delaware Bay or Mispillion River offer you a chance to fish for a variety of species. Slightly longer big game trips in Delaware Bay can be arranged for big, booming (the boat literally vibrates when they are underneath!) black drum or sharks, particularly in spring and early summer. Our inlet is perfectly situated and we are normally fishing in fifteen minutes. Bait, tackle and ice are all provided and fish cleaning is available. Our boat has the very latest in navigational and fish finding equipment, and Capt. Jack has decades of experience operating headboats and charter boats. We hope that you enjoy your stay with us here in beautiful Prime Hook Beach. We truly believe that no other beach rental can offer you the range of experiences you can choose with us. We are looking forward to seeing our friends, old and new alike, this season!
Prime Hook Beach is quiet and secluded yet close enough to Lewes and Rehoboth for shopping. Fishing is allowed (with a license) and bonfires are always a welcome addition in the fall. Enjoy the quiet September evenings around a bonfire with a glass of wine and/or roasting marshmallow. Spring heralds the arrival of the horseshoe crabs who lay clutches of eggs and offers a veritable feast for the shorebirds before continuing their journey to the arctic. Sunny, steamy days encourage many to cool off in the calm bay waters.

No smoking No parties No dogs
Slaughter Beach is a beach community reminiscent of days in the past. Just down the street, our town has a community playground with tennis and basketball courts, beach pavillion with plenty of additional parking as well as the nearby Dupont Nature Center. And for the more on the go visitor, Harrington Raceway & Casino is only 32 minutes away for a little more exciting entertainment.

Our home just had a make over with new flooring, fresh paint, and brand new furnishings. Our two main floor bathrooms have been partially renovated with new flooring and efficient toilets. Our sinks and showers are a nostalgic shade of blue. Though they are a bit dated they are clean and work very well. You’ll find thoughtful touches inside with a stocked game shelf with a large variety of games for different ages, DVD collection, and an Amazon fire stick. We have smart tvs with access to Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+. Outdoors you can relax on a hammock and swing under the shade of our deck while you watch the waves. As you approach, you’ll see that we are fortunate to be located on a small private road with seven homes with the Refuge in our backyard. Our quiet area of Prime Hook Beach is thriving with wildlife - from the deck you could see horseshoe crabs, foxes, ghost crabs, rabbits, toads, multiple species of birds, and the occasional pod of dolphins. We are also a migration stop for Red Knots and Snow Geese, and each year during the full moon in May and June horseshoe crabs come to spawn on our beach. Ready to venture beyond the wildlife refuge? Take a drive to Lewes, Rehoboth, or Bethany for shopping, ice cream, great restaurants, and famous ocean beaches. We even suggest a day trip to Ocean City and Assateague Island.
We are situated between the shore of the Delaware Bay and Prime Hook Wildlife Refuge. Most of the residents have summered in Prime Hook for many years. Our next door neighbor, for example, her family has owned property in Prime Hook for 80 years.

Quiet country setting minutes from town. Close to new Bayhealth hospital, Rehoboth Beach. Comfortable ranch on wooded lot. Room is at one end of house. Kitchen available, with room to store food. Wifi included. Heated mattress pad. If you like TV watching, it's generally all yours - including the living room - after 7 pm. Sunroom in back of house provides an additional quiet, bright reading or work area. That may change for a bit after puppy arrives in 2020.
Lovely room facing the wooded back yard. Large closet. Dresser and small couch. Heated mattress pad. Clean home with lots of fresh paint and large kitchen. Home faces farm land, so it's fun to watch the raptors swooping over the field across the street. Neighborhood rooster will wake you if you pay attention to that sort of thing. I'm retired, and fairly quiet when I'm not busy with a project (I sew, craft, and have endless home improvement things going on.) Other than that, things are pretty laidback. Starting March 11, 2020 - PUPPY! Be forewarned, absolute cuteness, but also every single down side of puppies. . . . I have plans to sleep in the sun room further away from guest rooms if barking/ night time fussing is a problem. But, PUPPY!
Peaceful country setting overlooking a farm field, from which you can watch wonderful sunrises if you are up. There are other homes in the neighborhood, but I'm on the edge of the development and neighbors are generally quiet. The resident roosters two doors down gives it a true country feel! All this, and less than two miles from town/shopping.
