Light and airy twin bedroom in picturesque four-bed house, parts of which are around 400 years old. Within the Exmoor National Park, our home is in a wooded valley and accessed via an uneven private road. Guests have use of a sitting room with wood burning stove and a breakfast room with oil-fired aga. Sit out on the patio and listen to the morning birdsong and nearby stream. After sundown, in the absence of clouds (and no light pollution), marvel at the stunning night sky.
For good reason the location is very popular with walkers. Turn left at the front gate for a pleasant, one-mile stroll to the village shops and the amenities of Porlock. Turn right and the path leads to endless, wonderful Exmoor walks. The surrounding woods and moors are home to wild Exmoor ponies and are one of the country's last secure haunts of the red deer. Nearby well-known beauty spots such as: Dunster village and castle; the much-photographed Porlock Weir; Culbone Church; Dunkery Beacon; Lynton; Lynmouth; Oare Church; Selworthy Church and Green; Tarr Steps; Watersmeet; Winsford; the Valley of Rocks, and the West Somerset Railway, are either a walk or short car journey away.

Accommodation on Exmoor cannot be found in a more delightful surroundings than Porlock. Approached via a narrow lane, behind the 13th century church, Marley Cottage is in a secluded yet central location. Dating to the late Victorian era.
Accommodation on Exmoor cannot be found in more delightful surroundings than Porlock. . Approached via a narrow lane, behind the 13th century church, Marley Cottage is in a secluded yet central location. Dating back to the late Victorian era, the cottage is the end terrace of six properties originally built as homes for local boat builders. Recently renovated, Marley Cottage has been thoughtfully decorated and furnished to create an inviting holiday home, with a pretty south facing seating area. To the front, the cottages share a pedestrian right of way for access. Weekly guests normally arrive on Saturday. I can sometimes be flexible for a Sunday arrival. One well behaved dog is welcome at the cottage
The hills of Exmoor surround Porlock on three sides, with the heather covered moors cut by deep, often wooded combes with clear sparkling streams at their base. The spectacular beauty of Exmoor is protected by the Exmoor National Park Authority and the National Trust, with the flora and fauna on the moor helped by the award-winning purity of the air. In addition, Porlock Bay has received EU awards for the cleanliness of the sea-water. Its unique situation allows Porlock to enjoy a wonderful, warm and soft climate. The village of Porlock on Exmoor Porlock is a traditional Exmoor Village with a long history of settlements existing on or near the site of the existing village, with stone-age remains only a short distance away. It is also a working village with shops supplying all that you need, to be found in the High Street. You will certainly be sure of a friendly Exmoor welcome in them all. This will be echoed in the pubs, hotels and restaurants to be found here.

A lovely 15th century farmstead, situated in a quiet location half a mile from the main road, and one mile from Porlock and the beach. We live in the farmhouse, and are here to welcome you and help you with your stay. We have a delightful garden where you can enjoy a cake or cream tea, and a large dining room and lounge for relaxing, reading, painting, with a log burning stove for winter months. Open all year, and welcome families and all dogs. We have been operating a B&B for 26 years.
Our rooms are large, airy and with lovely views over the garden to the hills beyond. The only lighting is from the starlit sky, and night-time sounds from the owls in our grounds and wild owls from the natural environment around us, on the National Trust Holnicote Estate, within Exmoor National Park.
We run Exmoor Experience, Exmoor Riding and Exmoor Owl & Hawk Centre - all a very small business, but offering a combination of quiet gentle relaxing experiences for you to enjoy. Our Farm is totally unique and when you stay with us you will have a really special experience and take home memories to last a lifetime.

The Potting Shed is a romantic retreat in a secluded location, at the foot of a beautiful sub-tropical garden and taking in 160 degree view out to sea. The property is entirely private and perfect for couples looking for a somewhere to spend a few days and ‘get away from it all’.
The Potting Shed is a cabin comprised of one large open-plan living area, the kitchen at one end, comfortable L-shaped sofa and small dining table in the middle and king-sized double bed at the far end. There is a small bathroom, with a shower unit, hand basin and toilet. The large bi-fold doors open onto the patio area in front of the property, with stunning sea views. There is also a large lawned area solely for guests’ use. The property is accessed via a garden path from the off-road parking area. The path is about 100m long and follows a decline along the edge of the exotic garden - please note that for those who struggle with mobility this property may not be the most suitable choice. Parts of the path a step so we wouldn't recommend to elderly guests. The owner lives in the house in the same grounds, but The Potting Shed parking area and garden is totally separate. The Potting Shed is compact but fitted with full-size appliances, such as fridge/freezer, electric oven and hob, microwave and slimline dishwasher. Other equipment includes toaster, kettle, a variety of kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses. A smart television is mounted on the wall by the sofa. The TV offers catch-up television via iPlayer and Chromecast, and Netflix is also available which offers a variety of films and TV programmes (the internet is not usually strong/fast enough in Porlock Weir to watch live TV, but catch up and on-demand TV is available). There is also an ipod docking station with DAB radio and wifi. A hairdryer is also provided for your convenience. Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. The Potting Shed has underfloor heating which is controlled by a thermostat and can be adjusted to suit your preferences. Bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take towels with you on day trips. Please note the kitchen taps have hot water supplied from the under counter heater but the bathroom tap doesn't have hot water. A small amount of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits are provided to ensure you can have a hot drink as soon as you arrive. There may also be other non-perishable items like a salt, pepper and a few herbs or spices available. Cleaning materials such as washing up liquid, dishwasher powder, and surface cleaner will be present in the property. One or two toilet rolls will be provided. Directly in front of the property is the patio area, a perfect spot for dining al fresco and listening to the sea lapping the shore below. There is also a lawn below the patio, available for your sole use. Secure off-road parking for one car is available in the grounds of the garden. A garden path leads from the parking area to The Potting Shed (approx 100 metres). One dog is welcome by prior arrangement. A supplementary fee of £15 will be added to your invoice. Please do not allow your dog on the furniture and do not leave them alone in the property at any time. The Potting Shed is strictly non-smoking. The property will be ready from 2 pm on the day of your arrival. Please depart by 10 am on the last day of your stay. Please leave the property clean and tidy so that we can guarantee it will be ready on time for our next guests.
Exmoor is situated in South West Britain, specifically across West Somerset and North Devon. Often referred to as England's best kept secret, Exmoor is a wonderful holiday destination for anyone looking for a holiday in the great outdoors! There's so much to see and do, from short walks to long expeditions across the moors or horse riding, taking in a safari or sight-seeing at your own pace around the 'picture postcard' villages and hamlets. Porlock Weir has a quaint little harbour and its own unique charm; the port has a long and colourful history. Today Porlock Weir is a quiet harbour and a thriving community that welcomes tourists every year, many of whom come to enjoy the pretty scenery, shops, tea rooms, pubs and local cuisine. On a fine day, the South West Coast Path offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the fabulous views across Porlock Weir and the bay. The coastal footpath links up with many other walking trails including Culbone, home to the smallest church in England. One of the more unusual attractions at Porlock Weir is the submerged forest. At low tide, the remains of ancient tree trunks arise from the grey clay soil. These desiccated stumps are the last remaining evidence of a forest that, once upon a time, lay five miles inland. Local amenities The harbour is the 'centre' of Porlock Weir, which is less than 1/4 mile away. There are two restaurants (The Cafe and Miller's at the Anchor), a pub (all three are dog-friendly) and a range of individual shops such as tea rooms, Exmoor Glass, etc. The village of Porlock is approximately 1.5 miles and boasts three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional local butcher, chemist, cash machine, petrol station, hardware shop, visitor centre and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms. Light and airy flat in the former stables to this house with an open plan kitchen/dining/living area (with full size double sofa bed), large shower room and bedroom with king size bed. And yes, it really was part of the groom's accommodation!

There's so much to see and do, from short walks to long expeditions across the moors or horse riding, taking in a safari or sight-seeing at your own pace around the 'picture postcard' villages and hamlets. Often described as 'the jewel in Exmoor's crown', Porlock has a long history of settlements existing on or near the site of the existing village, with stone-age remains only a short distance away. Porlock is a working village and boasts a number of pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and independent shops. There few more delightful surroundings than Porlock Vale, nestled at the foot of Porlock Hill, bounded to the north by its shingle ridge and breath taking views towards the Bristol Channel, and to the south by the rolling hills of the Exmoor National Park. The Exmoor coastline is formed mainly of cliffs but at Porlock the land flattens out and a unique mile long shingle ridge and an inland salt marsh have formed. For the bird watcher this is a very interesting site as a great variety of waders and wildfowl can be seen here in the winter as well as the occasional unusual bird passing through.
