In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole and that means comfort.
Thank you so much to everyone that has stayed and left such lovely reviews. Yes it's a small space but everyone seems to have enjoyed staying. We've certainly enjoyed it ourselves a couple of times (well we had to test it didn't we!) Nowhere else can you stay with a view like this from your comfortable bed! We are only 15 minutes from Hay on Wye and the perfect place to stay during the Hay festival. The Hobbit House has a wood-fired cooker so that you can cook your own meals and there is running water just outside. A large sofabed folds out to a full-sized double bed with a deep comfortable mattress. All bedding etc provided. Dinner and breakfast can be provided at extra cost - how about a nice hearty stew in a slow-cooker ready for you to arrive, with fresh bread warming in the Hobbit House's wood-fired oven? We have a number of great walks starting from the doorstep and a rural pub over the road. (please note that the pub is generally only open at weekends) PLEASE NOTE: 95% of people have loved staying here, but it isn't to everyone's tastes. it IS small. it does have a sofa bed rather than a proper bed. The bathroom is down in our house and although it is for your exclusive use, it is a 30 second walk away. This is glamping, not luxury. But if that suits you then you'll have an amazing time.
A Hobbit House in the middle of the beautiful Brecon Beacons. I think that's pretty unique don't you?!
Definitivamente recomendo!

  • Lugar bonito, me senti muito aconchegante.

We moved to the Brecon Beacons to enjoy the good life. We have a little bit of land and a few animals. We're planting as many trees as we can for heating - over 2,000 so far! we also have a hobbit house! This room has an en-suite shower room and includes exclusive use of a large outdoor wood-fired hot tub!
On the side of a Welsh mountain in the Brecon Beacons but easy to find and with good road access to the local area. We have a number of great walks starting from the doorstep and a rural pub over the road. (please note that the pub is generally only open at weekends) This is a ground floor room with en-suite shower room. The room has a double bed and also a pull out camp bed for a third person as needed. There are a couple of steps though so please contact us if you have special requirements. We also have our very own our "hobbit house" which is also available to rent!
Where better to stay than the beautiful Brecon Beacons?

There are marvellous views of the Brecon Beacons National Park from the house and cottage. A great feature of the house and cottage is the ability to walk directly on to public footpaths leading to Black Hill, the Offa's Dyke footpath, and Hay Bluff. The house and cottage annex provide spacious accommodation for up to 10 guests. Different generations of the same family can holiday together comfortably, whilst retaining their own private spaces. The house has: Large living room with 14kW Clearview wood burning stove and home cinema system with blu-ray player and wi-fi connection to Apple TV, and to iPlayer via your personal device. Large kitchen with Everhot electric Range Cooker (two ovens; grill; large hot plate + simmer plate) Dining room. Bathroom with WC. Shower room with WC. Three double bedrooms. Please note that one of the bedrooms is an open gallery above the living room. The cottage annex has:- Two double bedrooms Shower room with WC Outside there is: Large garden. Oak deck. Outdoor covered kitchen with two gas BBQs; large outdoor dining table 20 acres of fields, woodlands and river banks ACCESSIBILITY:- There is stair-free access to the kitchen, dining room, living room, two shower rooms and two bedrooms. There are stairs to three of the bedrooms and one bathroom. The house and cottage provide privacy and tranquility, yet are only 5 minutes drive from the nearest village, with shop, pub and post office. Guest reviews:- "Beautiful house in an even more beautiful location." "Ty'r Olchon could not have been better. Beautiful location for peace and quiet, and lovely walks along the river, through the valleys, fields, and forests. The house was perfect - cosy, warm, stylish and the home cinema was an extra treat for down time." "This place is a hidden gem, wow what a find. I took my family of 10 adults here for my partners surprise 40th Birthday and we had the most amazing time. Both the house and the cottage are spacious, clean and well finished. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need and the table sat 10 adults very comfortably." "Stunning location, beautiful house with excellent BBQ area for summer, and huge log burner for winter! : guest review December 2017 "Beautiful very well equipped home We had an amazing time. Mesmerising views . Entertainment lounge with log burner cinema system and games . Superb kitchen with an Aga . Pleasure for those who enjoy cooking." : guest review October 2017 "Had the most fabulous week here in October. Incredibly cosy getaway. All creature comforts are present in the house. Awesome views across the valley! Hygge time!" "House and location are quite simply stunning. Can't fault this place. The local walks are magnificent" " "Amazing house and location for a family weekend away. The house was comfortable and warm and had everything we needed to cook with. The log burner kept us really toasty in the evenings whilst watching films on the home cinema set up. We walked from the house on the public footpath with dog and 4 week old baby in a sling across the fields into Longtown, stopped at the pub for a drink, and the shop for supplies and walked back via the road. We also headed over to the other side of the valley to explore the landscape, less than 10 minute drive and then on foot again up the mountain. Very relaxed. The views are amazing." "A beautiful house tucked away in a peaceful and scenic situation. No noise or light pollution made this a very relaxing location. The wood burner was very welcome on a cold January weekend, as was the Aga, meaning the house was always very pleasantly warm and cosy."
This is a relatively undiscovered part of the UK with beautiful countryside, but with easy access to excellent restaurants and pubs, and culture and retail therapy in the book town of Hay-on-Wye and Abergavenny. Longtown village with its well-provisioned shop, post office and pub is five minutes drive away. Within 25 minutes drive are the Walnut Tree & Hardwick restaurants offering high quality cuisine in relaxed settings - book in advance! The magical Llanthony Abbey is in the next valley. The historic Marches towns of Ludlow, Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury and Hereford are within easy travelling distance. SOME OF THE LOCAL SITES OF INTEREST: Llanveynoe Church - 15 minute walk along the lane or through the fields and along the public footpath. Longtown Castle - in the middle of the village. Llanthony Priory & Cwmyoy Church - both in the next valley to the west of the cottage - a must when you are so near. St. Margaret's Church, 15 minute drive - very beautiful medieval church with a wonderful carved Rood Screen. Abbey Dore Church and Monastery - 20 minute drive. Red Daren/Offa's Dyke - directly opposite the house :- Drive for 10 minutes along the Mountain Road (the one you were told not to take just before you first arrived), over the river and up and over the cattle grid into the National Park - until you reach the parking place directly opposite the house. Within a few hundred yards before, and only a few yards after the parking place, there are two public footpaths leading up the mountain. The first is easier and will take you towards Llanthony Priory, the second is steeper and will take you in the direction of Hay Bluff. Cat's Back/Black Hill : quickest way to the top of the ridge and great views - 10 minute drive to the car park at the bottom of the Hill. Abergavenny - nearest market town (with a Waitrose, Aldi, Morrison, and Tesco), 25 minute drive on the route to Cardiff (which is only an hour away, traffic permitting, if you would like to spend some time in a surprisingly great little city). Hay on Wye - the book town - retail therapy, good food and pubs. The drive, from Ty'r Olchon to Hay-on Wye, taking the shortest route on the narrow road which climbs up to the highest point, gives stunning views and takes about 25 minutes. FOOD AND PROVISIONS Longtown Village:- Shop & Post Office; The Crown Inn Ewyas Harold Village, 15 minutes drive away has a well stocked village shop and post office, fish and chip shop, butcher selling very local fresh meat and good frozen fish, pub - The Dog; pub with restaurant - The Temple Bar. The Bridge Inn and Restaurant at Michaelchurch -15 minute drive - nice pub, good food. Fine restaurants within 25 minute drive The Walnut Tree, 20 minutes drive just off the road to Abergavenny The Hardwick, Raglan, 20 minutes drive MEDICAL & DENTAL GP at Ewyas Harold Dentists at Abergavenny Chemists at Abergavenny Accident & Emergency at Abergavenny (Nevill Hall Hospital) or Hereford

    Brett2019-12-22T00:00:00Z

Flagstone Cottage has a lovely open fireplace and is on a quiet remote farm in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The views are quite wonderful. There are miles of walks in the hills. Two pubs are in walking distance. Llanthony Priory Hotel has a cosy cellar bar, and it is lovely to sit outside in the summer and enjoy the surrounding ruined abbey. The Half Moon hotel allows dogs.
A delightful cottage, ideal for two adults in main bedroom which has a king size bed, and two children in a small mezzanine. There is a single bed tucked under the stairs in the living room if needed. The cottage is simply designed with old beams, stone walls and wood and flagstone floors. Built into the old converted stone barn, it is the larger one of two cottages. It is on a quiet farm and has views overlooking the beautiful Llanthony Valley in Brecon Beacons National Park. It is warm with underfloor heating in winter and a log fire to warm you after a long walk in the surrounding mountains. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking your own meals. Upstairs there is a bathroom with a good shower over the bath. The main bedroom has a king size double bed and above is a mezzanine for two children which is accessed through the wardrobe and up a secret staircase. It is galleried so not entirely separate from the main bedrooom. A bed downstairs in the living room can be used as an alternative for friend or child The space is suitable for four maximum. Please note bookings start (preferably) from Thursday (for the weekend or week) or Monday (my cleaning help is on those days) . Please ask about different arrival days.
The views are spectacular. The neighbours are over half a mile away. There are no street lights so it is great for star gazing, and apart from the occasional sheep baa-ing there is nothing to disturb the peace. There are pubs to walk to (closed weekdays in winter)and excellent restaurants a few miles away.

Kingfisher Camp is a romantic hideaway set in the dimple of a hillside of a small farm in the foothills of the Black Mountains. The hut is available for anyone who is content to cuddle up by candlelight and light the woodburning stove to get cosy, or spend a night out by the fire, cooking food and star gazing. The perfect space for anyone looking to self isolate in a special location!!
It's a tin hut, warm and cosy, tucked away from the world with stunning views. Previous guests have described it as the loveliest wendy house ever. It will accomodate a couple - or two good friends. It is all one room, with a sofa bed at one end and the kitchen department at the other. We do ask that guests bring their own sleeping bags or bedding (double sheet/duvet cover and pillow cases) and towels, and firewood. Everything else is provided for cooking etc.
We live on the edge of a fantastic village in the lee of the Black Mountains. There is a wonderful village shop - Hopes of Longtown - which stocks everything you could possibly need and more and caters for all types of dietary preferences, with a large focus on locally sourced food. There is the Crown Inn in Longtown and the Cornewall Arms in Clodock, well worth a visit, and the walking in the surrounding hills is unsurpassed.

The Shepherds Hut at The Grange is a unique way to get away from the hustle and bustle of any busy or city life, with no phone signal and very limited WiFi, it's not like anywhere you've done before. There is optional breakfasts, lunch and evening meals during season time and the shepherds hut is private and snug perfect for any family, couple or individual to get away and relax.
The Shepherds Hut, is a small, simple and cosy space surrounded by beautiful sights and things to do. With one double bed and one single bed there is a small stove in between, on which you can roast marshmallows. It also has a decking and chairs where you can enjoy the ever changing welsh weather and often see our horses in the fields surrounding.
Situated between Abergavenny (The Gateway to Wales) and Hay-on-wye (a famous book town), the Shepherds Hut is peaceful, secluded and often described as "the perfect get way". Falling asleep under clear, star studded sky's and waking up in the heart of welsh countryside, it is free of any city or town noises and you will often catch a glimpse of things you have never seen before, owls in the night sky, farmers shearing sheep or horses being herded to the field. This little get away is an experience like no other.

Set within the Brecon Beacons National Park, our place is perfect for walking, cycling and visiting the nearby Bleaenavon World Heritage sites including Big Pit, Blaenavon Ironworks and the Pontypool & Blaenavon Heritage Railway. The charming market town of Abergavenny is only 6 miles away and well worth a visit.
One bedroom with double bed and clothes rail. Shared use of bathroom, dining room and kitchen. The main benefit of staying with us is our location. Set in the Brecon Beacons, in the village of Llanelly Hill, it is a perfect place for those who want to discover the unique beauty of the area, as well as those interested in industrial history and archaeology.
We feel so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. The area has loads of walks and trails and plenty of cycle tracks. We are about 3 miles from the World Heritage site of Blaenavon, a must see for anyone interested in industrial history. Although we no longer have a village shop, there are plenty of shops in Brynmawr, just a couple of miles away. There is a village pub - The Jolly Collier - just 500 metres away. It serves food but only on a Wednesday, Thursday (Tapas night) Friday & Saturday - 6-9 and on Saturday and Sunday lunch 12 - 2.30. It is a lovely friendly place and the food is excellent. Would advise to make a reservation as it is only a small place and gets booked very quickly. I am happy to book for anyone who would like to eat there. The Racehorse Inn is relatively close, and although it can be done on foot, the hill up to it is very steep. They are open every night from 6.30 for meals and serve Sunday lunch 12-3. Again I can make bookings on guests behalf. The Bridgend Inn, in the nearby town of Brynmawr, is another good place to eat. Regular Menu served Monday-Saturday 12 -9pm. Sunday lunch 12 - 4. Happy to book on guests behalf

It’s a family affair with all the Bosanquet generations, old and young, playing part in making it come together.

Hay on Wye town Hay on Wye is a picturesque border town nestled within the Brecon Beacons National Park, an area of outstanding beauty and dark night skies. Known the world over as ‘Town of Books’ with Richard Booth opening the first secondhand book shop back in 1962. The Hay Festival of Literature is held every year during May, attracting famous writers, politicians, poets, musicians and comedians that provide entertainment over 10 days. This May also sees the return of ‘How the Light Gets In Festival’ celebrating philosophy and music. Apart from the festivals Hay offers many attractions throughout the year. The town itself is a maze of narrow winding streets full of independent shops offering quirky goods often locally made or produced for the discerning shopper, Thursday is market day with a variety of traders. With coffee houses and places to eat (many accepting our furry friends), Hay is a place you could loose yourself for hours. The town also has its own 40 seater cinema showing current and classic films. Around Hay on Wye The outdoor activities around Hay are endless and as such we have a number of outdoor/activity shops and centres. Walking is the obvious choice with the ‘Offas Dyke Path’ running from Chepstow to Prestatyn passing through Hay on Wye on the way where it crosses ‘The Wye Valley Walk’ which follows the Wye Valley, the river also offers canoeing and fishing (license can be obtained locally). Road cycling and Mountain biking both popular activities with many routes from Hay or nearby. Other activities offered locally are Pony Trekking, Abseiling, Archery, and Caving. Hay on Wye also has a well stocked and extremely informative Tourist Information Bureau. The Lodge is in the town so there could be noise at times.

Welcome to The Potting Shed! A cosy couples retreat, renovated to a very high standard, with many funky features and fantastic attention to detail. Just a stroll away from our friendly, foodie village pub, right on Offa’s Dyke path. It’s a special place, nestled in its own little corner of my garden, with an emphasis on luxury and lovely things. Transformed from my everyday potting shed, it’s now a spacious, warm and welcoming hideaway for two which I’m very proud of.
The Potting Shed is a great place to relax and de-stress. Kick off your shoes and curl up on the sofa; relax upstairs with a gorgeous view of the garden; or pop out onto your private terrace to watch the sun go down. Standing in the grounds of my home in the quiet village of Llangattock Lingoed, The Potting Shed has a fully-equipped kitchen; luxury double bedroom; snuggly goose down duvet and traditional Welsh blankets. It’s right on Offa’s Dyke path, a stone’s throw from our local inn and just 9 miles from the market town of Abergavenny. Our brilliant village Inn offers good food, fine wines and real ales; and you’re likely to get drawn into a chat with the locals too! Available for minimum 2-night stays and open all year, The Potting Shed is the ideal country hideaway for couples. There’s a wealth of things to do and places to see within easy reach, so whatever your pleasure - the outdoors, the city, museums, castles and culture or simply taking things easy... I look forward to welcoming you to The Potting Shed.
