Ballymoon Castle is 3 km (2 mi) east of Bagenalstown, and is thought to date from the 13th century. Bagenalstown is located on the River Barrow. It is at the junction of the R705 and R724 regional roads and lies on the eastern side of the R448.

A vista é tão adorável.

Ele tornou o processo de check-in super fácil.

    Julia2019-09-11T00:00:00Z

Ficaria novamente!

Sortudo.

Very peaceful and private, yet adjacent to our house, so you won't feel lonely or abandoned! The studio is a self-contained bedsit in a beautiful rural Kilkenny location. If you're looking for a place to retreat to from the hustle and bustle of towns, then this is your place.
The Studio is beautifully decorated and spacious. This is a room with soul! Guests have access to the garden and entire farm if you feel intrepid enough to walk down by the stream and up through the trees and fields. We also have a new building which is a lovely place to do some morning yoga, drink your tea while looking at he view, or play some table-tennis! We enjoy meeting people and hearing about their travels, but we are very respectful of privacy. We will welcome you and then leave you to make yourself at home. We are open to chats if the opportunity presents itself. The studio is a self-contained bedsit in a beautiful rural Kilkenny location.

Nós realmente apreciamos a nossa estadia! Ótimo valor ao dinheiro!

    Ruth2018-11-25T00:00:00Z

You are very welcome in my home, a small bungalow in the heart of Gowran village, located on the eastern side of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The mediæval town of Kilkenny is just a short drive away (16km). Carlow is a 20mins away and Dublin 1hour.
The space is occupied by myself and my dog. Please note, he's is a rescue dog and is nervous and insecure so if you are not a animal person this wouldn't be an ideal place for you. The house is about 100yo, work has been done on it, but it's not a ****hotel :) You will have private bedroom with a king size bed, all other space is shared.
Gowran Park race course and Golf Course is located one km from the house. In the centre of the village is the historic St. Mary's Collegiate Church which contains monuments from the 14th to 17th centuries. The beautiful town of Kilkenny is a 10mins drive from Gowran and offers plenty of things to do and see, lively nightlife and restaurant scene.

History and name The town sprang up within the townland of Moneybeg, which comes from Irish Muine Bheag, meaning 'small thicket'.[3] In the 18th century there was a small hamlet there. Walter Bagenal decided to build a town on the site, named 'New Versailles' and modelled after Versailles in France.[4] However, shortly after the building began the coach route from Dublin was changed so that coaches now crossed the River Barrow at Leighlinbridge instead.[4] Bagenal abandoned his plans, having built only a courthouse.[4] It wasn't until the arrival of the railway in 1846 that the settlement began to grow into a town.[4] The town was referred to in English as 'Bagenalstown', but local Irish speakers continued to refer to it as Muine Bheag. Following the creation of the Irish Free State, Muine Bheag became the town's only official name. A number of other places were renamed likewise. The motto on the town's coat of arms is The Irrepressible Number and its Irish equivalent Uimhir Gan Choisc. Places of interest Near Muine Bheag is Ballyloughan Castle, which comprises a twin-towered gatehouse and the hall and foundations of one of the corner towers of a large castle dating from about 1300.[5] Ballymoon Castle is 3 km (2 mi) east of Muine Bheag, and is thought to date from the 13th century.[6] Activities The 1st Bagenalstown BP Scout Group was set up in 2009 and meets in the McGrath hall. Their activities include hiking, camping, kayaking and games. In 2011 the troop became the first in the history of the state to stay in an Army barracks.[7] Muine Bheag hosts a floral festival every August. Sport Muine Bheag/Erins Own is the local hurling club, and have won the Carlow Senior Hurling Championship 14 times; their last win was in 1970. The local Gaelic football club is named Saint Andrews, who won the Intermediate football championship in 2016. Muine Bheag currently has two soccer clubs both participating in the Carlow premier division, Bagenalstown F.C. and Kilree Celtic. Muine Bheag has had a long tradition in cricket. The Bagenalstown Cricket Club was first formed in 1843 by the local millers, and is still in use. The club's logo is a grinding wheel, which was used in early milling. There is a swimming pool on the approach road to the town from Leighlinbridge. The racehorse Danoli, described in 1995 as "the most popular racehorse in Ireland"[8] was trained near the town by Thomas Foley. Education Muine Bheag has three primary schools and two secondary schools. Queen of the Universe National School, founded by Bishop Keogh in 1957, is a primary school in Muine Bheag for boys (junior infants to 1st class) and girls. St Brigid's National School, founded in 1865, is a primary school in Muine Bheag for boys only from classes 2nd to 6th. St Mary's National School is a co-educational school under Church of Ireland patronage, based in Muine Bheag. Presentation De La Salle College is a secondary school in Muine Bheag established in 1983. This Catholic College is under the trusteeship of the De La Salle Brothers, the Presentation Sisters and Bagenalstown Parish. Muine Bheag Vocational School is a secondary school in Muine Bheag, opened in 1963.

Altamente recomendado!

The property offers guests a memorable country house experience in a tranquil rural setting on the Carlow Kilkenny border. It's here that we grow, prepare, cook and present an encounter with our locality.

Since 1994 we have been inspired by Kilgraney and captivated by that the surrounding countryside, towns and people have to offer. It's here that we grow, prepare, cook and present an encounter with our locality. From the moment you walk through the weathered oak front door the womb-like hall, with honeyed woods, deep reds and ochre yellows, radiates welcoming and familiar tones. The interiors have a well-travelled and individual feel and have been decorated with some surprising touches. The house feels more like a home, which, essentially, is what it is, but with some of the comforts and facilities you expect from a small intimate hotel. Comfortable beds ensure you’ll have a restful sleep and awake refreshed for whatever your day may have in store. So relax, discover and come to love our home as much as we do.
Kilgraney is located in a quiet rural setting overlooking the Barrow valley in County Carlow. The house is equidistant from Bagenalstown and Borris village (6 km/ 3 miles). The Barrow River and the Blackstairs Mountains are nearby and offer many opportunities to encounter rural Ireland with unspoilt natural habitats and village life along quiet riverside walks and, for the more energetic, a good selection of forest and hill walks too. Carlow is a jewel of a county with a wealth of scenery and history – from rich pastureland and colourful mountains to the deep and historical Barrow River Valley. Everywhere in the landscape is the resonance of her ancient pre-Celtic past. A county of green, vibrant colours, whose welcoming people are much given to outdoor and sporting activities, such as gentle river cruising, golf or even hang gliding on Mount Leinster. Kilkenny is the Creative Heart of Ireland, where heritage and history, environmental harmony, crafts and architecture combine to create an all-pervading spirit of excellence. With Ireland's Medieval Capital at its heart, County Kilkenny offers the South East's finest countryside, a pretty, rich farmland dotted with medieval ruins, solid stone walls, charming villages and a host of historic monuments including Jerpoint Abbey, one of Ireland's finest monastic settlements. Regal, majestic and ancient, overlooking the brooding River Nore, Kilkenny Castle, now fully restored has stood sentinel at this important river crossing for perhaps 900 years. The Barrow Way follows the towpath, originally a path alongside the River Barrow to allow the pulling of barges or boats for transport. There are plenty of small, friendly villages where the welcome of the locals is renowned while the path also offers much of architectural interest to the visitor - bridges, many arched, and pretty lock houses, some still in use. Many interesting historical features are located in close proximity to the river including castles, abbeys, old bridges and derelict mills. Other Walks :The Slieve Margy Way Clogrennane Wood Looped Walk, Woodstock Gardens and Arboretum and Nore River Walk. Most popular local attraction is Kilkenny City. Here you’ll find Kilkenny Castle, a 12th century castle remodelled in Victorian times and set in extensive park lands which was the principal seat of the Butler Family, Marquesses and Dukes of Ormonde. The 19th century Picture Gallery is 45 metres long and contains many Butler portraits as well as some fine tapestries. Other Attractions :Altamount Gardens,Brownshill Dolmen, Duiske Abbey, Borris House, Jerpoint Abbey, Kells Priory and St Canices Cathedral. There are an impressive variety of golfing facilities within a short drive from Kilgraney House. Borris Golf Club, Mount Wolseley, Gowran Park Golf Club and Mount Juliet Golf Club. Other Pursuits Include: Eco Trails, Horse Riding, Fishing, Horse Racing and Canoeing.

Located right beside the River Barrow , with lovely walks right outside the door, for the experts and the amateurs..
People Olympic, World Rowing Championship (silver medalist), and world record-breaking sculler Seán Drea Colour-Sergeant John Lucas who won a Victoria Cross during the Taranaki Maori War in New Zealand in 1861 Beauchamp Bagenal, (1741–1802) rake, duellist and reputedly "the handsomest man in Europe"[9] Richie Kavanagh, an Irish entertainer Transport The town is on the River Barrow. It is at the junction of the R705 and R724 regional roads and lies on the eastern side of the R448. It is connected to the railway network on the Dublin – Kilkenny section of the Dublin-Waterford railway line. This connects the town to nearby Carlow, as well as Kilkenny to the southwest. Bagenalstown railway station opened on 24 July 1848. It was permanently closed for goods traffic on 6 September 1976[10] and renamed "Muine Bheag" in 1988. International relations See also: List of twin towns and sister cities in the Republic of Ireland The town was twinned with the town of Pont-Péan, Brittany in 1999. The twinning charter, which is written in Irish, English and French, commits the two towns to "developing social, economic, cultural, touristic, and sporting links" between the two communities.
