    Helen2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Nós amamos a nossa estadia!

A romantic country retreat in the heart of the Wye Valley on the edge of the Forest of Dean. An ideal base for exploring all the fantastic activities and sites that the local area has to offer. Whether you enjoy mountain biking, rambling, canoeing, or soaking up some English and Welsh heritage - the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean really do have something for everyone. We will happily answer any questions you have about the local area to ensure you get the most out of your stay.
This beautifully and sympathetically, renovated cosy cottage is nestled in the village of Redbrook and literally sits on the England & Wales border - the border is a brook that runs through a culvert under the cottage so you can take a shower in England and then make yourself a cup of tea in Wales! The cottage is equipped to a high standard with everything you'll need for a comfortable stay and a relaxing holiday. With upside down living, you'll find the cosy bedroom downstairs with a luxury king-size bed and underfloor heating, plus a double ended bath and power shower to help you unwind after a long day exploring. Upstairs the open plan kitchen and living area provides all mod-cons to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and there is an upstairs private decking area with a BBQ so you can sit out and enjoy the view across the valley whilst listening to the brook babbling by.
Redbrook is a small village on the England/Wales border, which sits on the shores of the River Wye. The cottage is a 5 minute stroll into the centre of the village where you will find a fantastic village shop, a village green and 2 pubs (one in England, one in Wales - which makes for a great atmosphere during the Rugby!) It is just 2 miles from the historical market town of Monmouth and has many local attractions. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area which has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Responsible Travel - no bookings Apr/May-Coronavirus. Tasteful conversion of an old outbuilding “where the cider mill donkey once lived", Forest of Dean. A detached, clean & comfortable private escape for you to unwind & enjoy the views over an old perry pear orchard managed for wildlife. Neighbourhood of similar smallholdings & valley farmland with direct access to forest walks & perfect for stargazing. Friendly sheep & our pet alpacas Badger & Bracken may be grazing in the field nearby.
Literally just off the beaten track, a privately located & slightly elevated detached cottage arranged on one level with lovely views. We live further along the track and are on hand to help but equally we’re respectful of your privacy allowing you to completely relax and unwind. Open-plan living area with a well equipped modern kitchen area. Patio doors plus full length windows to take advantage of the far reaching countryside views & for wildlife watching. The bedroom has a king-size bed, with a quality feather-effect duvet & pillows (suitable for vegans). There are thick curtains for a good nights sleep, though if left open, you may watch the sunrise over the valley directly from your bed. Modern en-suite shower room with plentiful hot water & good water pressure. SPRING Wake to the sound of birdsong & take short stroll from the cottage & you’re in beech woodlands carpeted with scented bluebells & natural babbling springs. SUMMER Open the patio doors in the living area to make the most of the gentle valley breeze and enjoy the views. Sit outside at night & stargaze. AUTUMN Experience the beautiful displays of autumnal leaf colour in the adjacent woods & forage for chestnuts. WINTER A well insulated cottage for winter with modern electric radiators plus a cosy wood burner. Snuggle up in front of the fire and enjoy the views. Garden bench on a grassy lawn for your morning coffee or to watch the sunrise. Bistro set on a paved area that benefits from the late afternoon/early evening sun. The land is primarily managed for wildlife. Buzzards fly above along the woodland edge, green woodpeckers forage the field, squirrels climb along trees by the stream. At night you may hear the owls. A badger will often pass by on its evening route (dependant on the time of year). A small herd of family owned friendly Jacob sheep (some have been hand reared) are usually in the field next to the cottage. They rotationally graze with other neighbours so we can’t always guarantee they’ll be there. Our inquisitive pet alpacas Badger & Bracken are usually around. Sorry no dogs due to the proximity of the livestock. Facilities:- - The bathroom is a modern shower room with a large corner shower with plentiful hot water & good water pressure (no bath). - TV with built in DVD player - Drawer full of board games, playing cards, DVDs etc. - Books, local maps and guides - Cafetiere (no coffee maker) - Microwave, double oven & grill, dishwasher, washer/dryer, freestanding fridge/freezer. - Blankets for outdoor use in the evenings should you wish to sit outside longer to watch the wildlife and stargaze (kept in the monks bench). - Cosy real wood burner, first basket of logs free of charge. Extra baskets of logs - £5 per basket. Please note the soap provided in the shower room and kitchen is liquid hand soap.... not the solid bar variety.
A peaceful valley of scattered cottages, smallholdings and farmland outside the settlement boundary of Mitcheldean, in open countryside, on the woodland edge of the Forest of Dean. The area is rich in wildlife and the Gloucestershire Way and Wysis Way footpaths run opposite. St Antony’s Well can be found in beech woodlands with bluebells at the end of the lane. The large village of Mitcheldean is within a 20 minute walk where there is a Coop, convenience store, butchers, pharmacy, florist, library, takeaways, automated petrol station, car repair etc. The local brewery, Bespoke Brewery opens their brewery tap bar most weekends. Jolter Press, a local cider & perry maker has a bar that’s usually open on a Friday evening. Both are situated in The Mews, Mitcheldean.

Underdean Lodge is a lovingly restored 2 double bedroom Georgian lodge on the edge of the Forest of Dean and is the perfect base for exploring both the Forest and the Wye Valley. The lodge includes beautiful period features and a wood burning stove. Dogs welcome. Footpaths lead to the Forest from the front door. We are ideally located adjacent to the A48 for convenient access to Gloucester, Monmouth and Chepstow which are all about 25 minutes away. View 'The Space' for Covid-19 measures taken.
We have restored this Grade 2 listed Georgian gate house sympathetically but with all the modern touches one requires for a comfortable stay away from home. The lodge is warm and cosy and despite its proximity to the road, is extremely quiet, thanks to high quality secondary and double glazing throughout. The house is decorated throughout with prints and photos of the surrounding area and we have a large map in the kitchen to help you plan your days out and country walks. COVID-19 UPDATE: Here is some additional information about the lodge in light of recent government announcements. We hope these put your mind at rest and show that you can still visit yet stay within current rules. - The lodge is located at least 30m from our house and more than 100m from any other neighbours. It also has it's own private parking area. - There are walks into the open countryside direct from the door. - Many of our guests have received online shopping deliveries to the lodge in the past so we know this is possible. - The lodge will be fully aired between guests. - We've implemented a new, even more rigorous, cleaning regime ensuring that all surfaces are throroughly washed with a bleach based cleaning fluid and we wash bedding in Dettol anti bacterial washing detergent (sensitive).
Breathtaking views of the River Severn are accessible just a few minutes walk from the Lodge and for those who want to go further, Forest walks are a 15 minute walk away down a pretty country lane. The Lodge is the ideal base from which to explore the Forest with multiple walks and amenities within the Forest, such as GO APE!, just a 10 minute drive away. The Cock Inn in Blakeney is a superb friendly local with a welcoming fire, lovely beer garden and terrific food as well. Blakeney is also served by a nice Italian restaurant, Dolce Vita, and a decent Fish & Chip Shop. Newnham is also only a couple of miles away. This, again, offers a range of pubs, a great cafe and some lovely shops in which to browse. There is also an excellent local butcher (open on Fridays and Saturdays). Lydney (10 minutes drive away) has a Tesco and Co-op and all the shops and services you'd expect from a mid sized town.

A tranquil haven to escape to and lose yourself in the beauty of nature waiting on your doorstep. Your 1 acre garden has places to relax, free range chickens (eggs for breakfast!) roaming, a bee hive and is full of interesting trees and wildlife. The picturesque Whitebrook stream runs the length of the garden and you can clamber down and explore. Our 18th century stone-built cosy cottage is ideal for 2 with open plan kitchen/dining/living & double bedroom/ensuite shower. 15 minutes to Monmouth.
Our newly renovated cosy getaway is perfect for 2 people looking for a short or long break, fab for exploring the Wye Valley and convenient if attending local functions or visiting friends/family. Singles, couples, friends and families all welcome and we do have an additional double bed settee in the lounge/diner/kitchen and 2 chair beds in the bedroom. A simple breakfast is provided in the annexe and includes milk, cereal, bread & jams/marmalades. Tea and coffee supplies also provided. Mobile reception is patchy, there is a landline in the house should you need it. Wi-fi isn't available yet!
A fab and picturesque village with real character set in a valley with a pretty stream running down to the river Wye. "The Whitebrook" the village's very own fab Michelin starred restaurant is 300m down the road from us - great for special occasions. "The Boat" at Redbrook is a great bike ride away (bit tough riding back up the hill!) but well worth the cycle (or you can drive) - an old traditional Inn with log burners nestling on the banks of the Wye - local ales/ciders and simple pub food. Walking, mountain biking (great off-road tracks), road cycling, kayaking, canoeing are all either on our own doorstep or on the doorstep of the village. The old castle towns of Monmouth, Abergavenny and Chepstow are short drives away with an abundance of beautiful villages, walks and country eateries scattered throughout.

Danby Cottage is located in the Forest of Dean. So close to nature there's a good chance of seeing wild deer right outside the front door! Forest walks, parks, cycle paths, activity centres, craft centres, pubs and places to eat are all within walking distance. After a long day you'll be able to sit back and relax in the garden in the summer, or by the log fire in the winter! Our extended cottage has been designed specifically for family living with a large living dining room.
The living dining room has a wonderful pitched ceiling and log burning stove for those winter evenings. Our downstairs and garden are completely accessible to wheelchair users. The cottage is surrounded by forest and there are lovely walks in all directions. The kitchen is well equipped for keen cooks and has a lowered worktop for wheelchair users or young cooks who want to help! The cottage was extended in 2007 and great care was taken to make the whole building sustainable. We won a gold for green tourism which we still maintain.
The cottage is in a very peaceful and quiet setting. The area has a very interesting agricultural and industrial history of which there are many remnants to visit. Puzzle wood was once Roman ironworks, Hopewell coal colliery still welcomes visitors, clear well caves was once the source of ochre used for painting and the Forestry Commission have done much to enhance their sites for visitors, including Go Ape and the Sculpture trail. The Speech house is now a hotel with good grub but was once the Verderers Courthouse.

  • A nossa estadia foi absolutamente maravilhosa. A casa é linda e absolutamente impecável.

Note-se que não há freezer ou banho. Recomendaria altamente!

    Alexandra2019-08-17T00:00:00Z

Awaken in a sleeping loft when morning light enters through a skylight slotted between century-old beams. Cook breakfast in a full kitchen as a grandfather clock chimes the hour. This former stable of stone and brick is comfortable and fully updated.
The Stables is a one bedroom barn conversion, that many years ago used to be (you guessed it!) the old Stables here at Daniels Farm. The original owner of the stables, Harry, had a particular sense of humour. He named the two horses kept here, Tom and Dick. This obviously led to him becoming the talk of the town! After being lovingly converted in 2005, I'm afraid that these days there's no hay in sight. You enter through an old fashioned 'boot room', with utility facilities and a downstairs bathroom. This opens out into a large country kitchen with a dining area. Straight ahead is your private patio, and to the right you can walk straight through to the separate living area. Fitted with a sofa bed, as well as an additional sofa, the old oak beams and old stable features transport you back in time. Moving upstairs into the bedroom, you should know that we can make it up as two Single beds or as one Super King. There is also an ensuite for your comfort. Most importantly, you can lie in bed and look across the countryside to the River Severn. (TIP: For an even better view in the morning make sure to convince your holiday partner to cook you breakfast and bring it to you in bed!)
The house is one mile from the village of Blakeney, where there's a local shop, post office, and an award-winning fish-and-chip shop. The nearby town of Newnham has a quaint and colourful high street with a butcher, hairdresser, and gift shop.

A beautiful old forester's cottage sitting in its own mature garden overlooking the Flaxley valley on the edge of the Royal Forest of Dean. Peter's Nest is a favourite cottage for honeymooners and couples--especially walkers and those with dogs! This Cotswold stone cottage tucked away by woods is the perfect 'love nest' for two, Virgilian in bucolic peace and sweet sylvan scenery. Downstairs the house has an modern, open-plan kitchen and living room with a wood-burning stove in one corner and a small bathroom. Upstairs is a cosy bedroom with a low ceiling, a perfect retreat from the world.
In a clearing below Peter's Nest Wood known mysteriously as 'Hell's Throat', hard by a woodland spring is the original tiny cottage of Woodwells farmstead, marked on an 1847 map. INTERIOR Downstairs we enter through the kitchen, which leads into the living room with comfortable dining and sitting areas, and a cosy wood-burning stove. The bathroom is adjacent. As this is a small cottage the ceiling height is low in the bathroom! The cottage is heated by storage heaters. A narrow staircase lead upstairs to the small double attic bedroom (with very low, sloping ceilings under the eaves) with queen-sized bed, enjoying views to the west down the Owlpen valley. Hanging space for clothes is provided under the eaves, and a small dressing table. Peters Nest is situated in the east of the valley in the heart of the woods, making it a perfect location for walkers looking to explore the valley, and is adjacent to Woodwells cottage. There is ample parking and a small garden adjoining the garden of Woodwells cottage. There is also a large wilderness woodland dell to the east of the cottage. A small wrought iron table provides the opportunity to enjoy a sunset aperitif or breakfast coffee. Or watch the wild life and sociable pheasants. Key Features •Favourite with honeymooners •Nestled in the heart of the woods •Perfect location for walkers •Wood-burning stove •Dog friendly •Sleeps 2
The Cotswolds are one of England's best known touring regions of picturesque hills, limestone villages and scenic attractions. The magical deep wooded valleys here form its most spectacular scenery. Golf, gliding, riding, antique shops, historic houses, castles and gardens nearby. But many visitors never leave the privacy of the Owlpen estate, with its miles of footpaths and utter seclusion. The Owlpen valley has long been recognised as one of the most romantic places in England and provides guests with an exclusive and relaxing hideaway, surrounded by private woods and hills and many miles of walks--from a gentle stroll round the estate trails to a 20 mile trek along the Cotswold Way. This is Laure Lee country, situated in the Royal Triangle in the heart of the Cotswolds hills. The historic cities of Bath, Cheltenham and Cirencester are all within an easy drive, as are the cultural and scenic attractions of Oxford, Blenheim and Stratford Upon Avon, which are popular day excursions. An ideal base for the Horse Trials at Badminton and Gatcombe Park and racing at Cheltenham. Westonbirt Arboretum and the Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge are nearby. Newark Park (National Trust) and Woodchester Mansion are three miles away, as well as many historic houses and gardens, including Berkeley Castle, Chavenage House, Sudeley Castle, and Highgrove—if you can get in. The choice of attractions and things to see and do is huge and you will need to return many times to see and explore it all.

The Old Dairy is a cosy , spacious self contained annex to our beautiful Georgian farmhouse. It is situated on our working farm in stunning, peaceful Herefordshire. It is conveniently situated just off the A49 at the end of our farm drive.
The Old Dairy comprises a small entrance hall with coat hanging space and shoe rack leading into the lounge with 2 seater sofa and arm chair. There is a table and 2 chairs under the window so that you can eat your breakfast and enjoy the view. The Old Dairy now has its own internet connection so enjoys reasonable download speed. There is a smart TV in the lounge so that guests can enjoy catch up TV etc. There is a king size bed in the bedroom which will split into 2 x 3' single beds if required. The bathroom has a walk in shower and the whole property has under floor heating which makes it very cosy! The fully equipped kitchen allows you to be completely self sufficient if you wish to cook for yourselves. The accommodation is on one level and is suitable for those with mobility issues.
The farm is situated in beautiful countryside. Pengethley Park, which is National Trust land, is accessed directly from the farm and is a lovely place to walk. Our sheep and cattle graze there and the ancient church of St. Dubricius nestles at the bottom of the park. The River Wye is a short walk of 3 miles & you can take a pit stop at The Lough Pool Inn should you need refreshments. The Red Lion is a short walk away & provides good pub food. The Welsh borders are a treasure trove of castles, gardens & National Trust properties with something for everyone. The beautiful Forest of Dean is a short drive away & I can recommend tea at The Speech House Hotel. The market town of Monmouth is only 10 miles from the farm & has an interesting selection of shops, cafes & restaurants. The Savoy Theatre holds regular showing of films, live music & plays. This is Bertie! A lovely converted vintage horse box set in 1 1/2 acres. There’s a woodburner and a small electric heater in the van so you’ll be cosy over winter. The main kitchen is outside but there’s a hob in Bertie too. There’s also a fire pit to sit around, a compost loo and electric shower (in wooden structure so potentially a bit chilly in winter!) . Bertie is in St Briavels, between the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. Price includes wood for fires and use of beautiful grounds.
Bertie is a gorgeous old boy! He's beautiful but he is a bit rustic too so only come and visit him if you enjoy the outdoors. The bed is up a set of steps, see pics, so just to make you aware you'll be climbing up to get into your cosy nook. He lives in an old quarry with beautiful limestone walls and is covered with trees. It's a fab place to just hang out and relax, make fires, cook and generally get away from the hectic pace of every day life. Please note that we have wifi up at the house and you are welcome to walk up and login, but it doesn't extend to Bertie. It's a long way down!
St Briavels is on the edge of the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley, on the Welsh border. It's a great place to access endless walks in both the valley along the river and the thousands of acres of forest, there's canoeing on the Wye and if you want something a little more urban we're about an hour from Bristol or Cardiff. You can walk to the local pub the George for drinks or a meal and the village has a little deli shop. We're about 15 minutes from both Chepstow and Monmouth for a bit of shopping or lunch out. Or you might just prefer to hang out in the quarry by the fire :)
