Tōkai Region: ryokans

This house is located in a fantastic location, only a 6 min walk from the nearest station. Shiho, the host, was very accommodating. She greeted us as we arrived and gave a house tour. She also asked how we were going and made sure everyone was okay, something that is rarely done for Airbnb hosts. Everything in the house was clean and organised, the beds and futons were comfortable, and overall we had a great time staying at this place.

A wonderful experience. The house adjoins the To-ji temple which is a must to visit especially on the 21st of the month. We slept very well on the modern futons, the bed clothes smelled so good and the onsen was such a pleasant moment. The house is big and w modern equipment. The room at the back is quiet and really nice. We asked Maya some restaurant tips and trips we wanted to do and we always got a super fast answer. Very helpful.

Very warm and helpful household (luggage room option). Good location (quiet and few minutes to Kyoto Station). Rooms very clean, spacious and cosy; beds very comfortable. Everything as described. I highly recommend it!

Wir waren 2 Nächte als Familie mit drei Kindern (18, 18, 15) dort. Die Gastgeberin Yoshino-san ist sehr herzlich und zuvorkommend. Die Kommunikation ist klar, sie hat zu allen möglichen Themen Schilder auf Englisch, z.T. sogar auf Deutsch parat. Die 2 durch Schiebetür getrennten Zimmer sind groß, waren aber mit den insgesamt fünf Futons natürlich recht voll gestellt, wenn auch ausreichend. Es gab viel Platz in Schränken! WC und Badezimmer waren sehr sauber. Man sollte unbedingt einmal das japanische Frühstück von Yoshino-san ausprobieren. Empfehlenswert ist außerdem ein Besuch im Tempel, dessen Priester ihr Sohn ist. Wir hatten die Möglichkeit, einmal an der morgendlichen Zeremonie teilzunehmen, was sehr beeindruckend war. Der Tempel liegt perfekt zwischen Kaiserpalast und Hijo-Burg. Es gibt eine Auswahl von kleinen guten japanischen und anderen Restaurants in der Nähe.  Wer ein authentisches Erlebnis in einem japanischen Heim sucht, ist hier genau richtig! what a wonderful place. staying at miwa's house felt like a real insight into rural Japan. the house is so old and beautiful, and the location is stunning. the photos cannot capture how amazing the view is. nojiri is a lovely village with a cafe, shop, and all you could need but feels so quiet and tranquil. easy to get to tsumago and other stops on the train but nojiri and the atera ravine were the highlight of our stay! thank you so much for a beautiful experience!

Très bel hébergement, on s'y sent comme à la maison. Yoko nousi avait même mis des fraises dans le frigos, très gentille attention de sa part. L'arrêt de bus est vraiment très près de la maison et permet de rejoindre le métro ou la gare très rapidement. Un super séjour, tout était parfait!!! Merci Yoko.

Heerlijk huis, super schoon in fijne straat. Dichtbij zijn treinen, bussen etc. Ook veel lekkere restaurants en kleine eetgelegenheden, bijvoorbeeld bij de buren (2 huizen verderop) wordt je gastvrij ontvangen en heb je goed ontbijt met lekkere koffie. De slaapkamers boven bieden wel weinig privacy, want je moet altijd door elkaars kamer. Met een gezin en vrienden is dat ook best gezellig trouwens.

Great spot in Kyoto that is within walking distance to some nice cafes, restaurants, and sights to see. There is also lots of busses that make getting to the busy parts of town quite easy and accessible. Masahiro was very responsive and friendly. Thanks for a great stay!

la maison traditionnelle dans une petite ruelle traditionnelle à côté d'un grand axe où il y a métro et bus. La décoration intérieure est très raffinée avec des œuvres d'art très jolies. l'hôte à été très réactive quand nous avons du poser des questions. Nous serions bien resté quelques jours de plus.

We had a great time in Kyoto, and enjoyed our stay at this house. Host was very friendly and responsive. The house itself was very clean and well taken care of. Its close location to the train station made travel easy, and local food spots were within walking distance. I would recommend this stay for anyone visiting the area.

Very nice place with clean and hot tub including place! Drinks, gifts, and quick communications are great to feel welcome at place.

A delightful, charming building within easy reach of trains, buses and restaurants. Located centrally to the top tourist destinations made it easy to travel in any direction and have an enjoyable day and was quiet enough to be away from the really busy tourist areas. We loved our stay and would definietly recommend to friends. Thank you!

Our group was so excited for this stay given its history and cultural touches. We were not disappointed! The home is absolutely beautiful and thoughtfully curated. Our host was also very helpful in coordinating luggage delivery for a few of our traveling party. The neighborhood was peaceful and full of local spots to explore, as well as well connected to all the must dos in Kyoto via public transport.

Yasuhiko san was waiting for us when we arrived and explained everything about the place in careful detail, and provided what turned out to be great recommendations for a bakery and a grocery store, both nearby. The staircase, as he warned us ahead of time, is quite steep -- my older friends preferred to stay downstairs; I used the upstairs bedroom and found it easier to use the staircase by walking down backwards like a ladder -- it is quite steep. The area is very busy with tourists, many foreign, and both the bakery and the grocery had more non-Japanese than Japanese when we visited -- I suppose this is to be expected so close to Gion. But in short, the place was wonderful, as was Yasuhiko.

Wir liebten die Möglickeit in einem traditionellen, japanischen Haus zu Gast zu sein. Das Raumklima war sehr angenehm und wir haben uns rundum wohl gefühlt. Das japanische Frühstück welches uns Yuta servierte war sehr fein und eine neue Erfahrung für uns. Danke dafür!

Our stay at Yamashita’s beautiful 100-year-old Japanese villa in Kyoto was the perfect way to end our 2 week vacation in Japan. The house is spacious, very clean, and well-equipped, perfect for our group of 12. It has everything you need and more. It has a serene garden, jacuzzi, and sauna—the kids especially loved the jacuzzi! Yamashita is an EXCEPTIONAL host—very warm, helpful, and accommodating. She drove us to supermarkets and places we wanted to go and even picked us up for a small fee. She prepared simple yet delicious breakfasts. She was quick to respond to messages and even guided us on using local buses. Though the house is a bit far from the touristy areas, the peace and quiet of Yamashita’s home made it the perfect retreat. It offered a more authentic and relaxing experience of Japan. I highly recommend Yamashita’s villa to anyone looking for comfort, culture, and outstanding hospitality. And to anyone looking for a truly memorable stay in a traditional Japanese home.

What a beautiful traditional Japanese home to stay We totally loved the old house, beautiful decorations, the inner courtyard and our room. Everything was perfect! Chieri is a great host, we felt very welcomed and home right away. We were on a road trip, so we also enjoyed that we could wash our clothes. And we tried out the traditional japanese bath. Perfect! We had an unforgettable stay at this serene retreat. Our host, Miko, was exceptionally warm and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. During our visit, we had the unique opportunity to experience a kaiseki-french fusion dinner prepared by a newly appointed chef. Each course was a masterpiece—beautifully presented and bursting with flavor, showcasing the chef’s creativity and attention to detail. The tranquil gardens surrounding the property added to the zen-like ambiance, providing a perfect setting for relaxation and reflection. This stay was a harmonious blend of culinary excellence and peaceful surroundings. Highly recommended for those seeking an authentic and rejuvenating experience.

Wir hatten einen tollen Aufenthalt. Die Zimmer sind sehr hübsch und das Frühstück war fantastisch! Die Lage war für uns perfekt. Wir wurden sehr nett empfangen und verabschiedet. Die Unterkunft war für uns insgesamt sehr gut, ist allerdings (nachts) hellhörig, was beim Schlafen stören kann. Es werden aber Ohropax kostenlos bereitgestellt. Vielen Dank für die Gastfreundschaft! We loved our stay at KuraKura! It’s a huge traditional house with beautiful, spacious rooms. There were just 2 of us but could easily accommodate a large group. We especially enjoyed the kotatsu with a view of the garden; the big kitchen with lots of equipment; and the wooden tables on the tatami. We walked up to Yoshinoyama one day, it’s quite far but possible! We also explored the local neighbourhood, with its lovely waterfalls and shrines. The hosts are so friendly and helpful. They helped with our luggage and drove us to the train station. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable stay!
