One of the best South Indian food chains in the world is based in Parklands, a 5 to 10 minute drive from our house. Great for dosa's, idly and all the other gorgeous south Indian tastes and very affordable.

Parks & Nature
Karura forrest is an elaborate area of pristine forrest saved from development by Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Matthai. It is home to monkeys and various small types of wildlife and serves as a getaway from the city for Kenyans and expats. We go running here on the weekends as there are excellent trails of 5 or 10k that are well marked. Finish with brunch or lunch at Riverside Cafe (be sure to reserve beforehand as it gets very busy).

Karura forrest is an elaborate area of pristine forrest saved from development by Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Matthai. Papa Sumbunu and a dozen other art traders from West Africa have their shops (which double as their homes) hidden awat in the Safety Line Lodge in the bustling CBD. Go here for great original art from West Africa at very affordable prices. Many of the other Nairobi high end tourist shops buy their goods here and mark it up for twice as much.
