Drinks & Nightlife

Adelaide has finally discovered its laneways and side streets, and what a transformation it's made to sleepy little Leigh Street and neigbouring Peel Street, smack in the heart of the city. Two things have made it possible: the conversion of Leigh Street to a traffic-free al fresco dining area, with beautifully restored buildings and fashionable new bars; and the state government's new small bar licence, which has fast-tracked licensing for bars with a capacity of under 120 people and made the process much, much cheaper. The result has been a bonanza for diners, drinkers and developers, creating a new social centre of gravity for the city with a rash of new bars, cafes and restaurants adding to a list of sometimes quirky little businesses that have been there for years.

2KW Bar & Restaurant quickly established itself as the premium venue of Adelaide’s CBD, after opening in early-2015. Consisting of an indoor-outdoor dining space and bar, open access to the outside bar and private garden and deck, the new bar and restaurant focuses on casual, clean and local food. Boasting arguably the best location of all Adelaide CBD bars, 2KW can be found on the rooftop of the Westpac building at the corner of King William and North Terrace – right in the very centre of the city’s main precinct and with a stunning view of Adelaide. 2KW Bar & Restaurant attracts a mainly after-work, corporate crowd, generally aged 35 and over.
