Konak achieved its primary purpose during the first reign of Prince Mihailo (1839–1842), when it served as his residence.
In the seventies of the 20th century, the administration of the city of Belgrade decided that the Konak building, in accordance with its historical, artistic and monumental heritage, would receive a new purpose and become a museum. After rehabilitation and reconstruction, the building became part of the Museum of the City of Belgrade in 1980.

It was intended to be a representative court of the Serbian ruling dynasty Obrenović. However, due to the proximity of the Turks, Prince Miloš stayed there for a short time. Konak achieved its primary purpose during the first reign of Prince Mihailo (1839–1842), when it served as his residence.
In the seventies of the 20th century, the administration of the city of Belgrade decided that the Konak building, in accordance with its historical, artistic and monumental heritage, would receive a new purpose and become a museum. After rehabilitation and reconstruction, the building became part of the Museum of the City of Belgrade in 1980.
The Cathedral Church in Belgrade was built on the foundations of the old church, which was mentioned during the Austrian rule in Belgrade from 1717 to 1739. The old church, which was built of stone, with a large dome, without a cross, was so destroyed after the surrender of Belgrade in 1739 that it had to be demolished in 1763. A new wooden church was built in its place, which was replaced in 1795 by a church made of solid material but without a bell tower. The bell rang for the first time in Belgrade under Turkey, on February 16, 1830.
