A fairly short but steep walk from the back of the house. If you're a fairly keen walker, continue on to Alderman's Hill to overlook the moorland and reservoirs

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal is only a few steps from our house. It makes a very nice, fairly easy walk to Uppermill and on to Diggle - where it disappears into the longest, highest and deepest tunnel in the country. There are information boards here, and guess what? More cafes! In the other direction it runs through to Stalybridge - there's a long tunnel so take a torch or risk the puddles! Short boat trips are available from Uppermill and from time to time, trips through the tunnel are run from Diggle and Marsden

Brass band contests

Greenfield is one of the villages with a brass band (actually it has a few). It hosts the local Band Contest, where bands from all over the world come to compete in the Saddleworth villages on Whit Friday. Have you seen the film "Brassed Off"? If so, you get the picture!
