This historic gem is one of the holiest places in Juneau. St. Nicholas Orthodox Church was founded in 1893, at the request of the local Tlingit community. Constructed locally by Tlingit people and Serbian miners in 1893-94, the church was built on land donated by Yees Ganalax and using plans and funds sent from Russia. Furnished, decorated, and outfitted by generous gifts from the Russian Mission Society, the church was consecrated by Bishop Nikolai (Ziorov) in 1894, the church has been a fixture of the Juneau community and landscape ever since. Saturday 6:00 pm – Great Vespers (Confession Following) Sunday 10:00 am – Divine Liturgy - church service

Conselho para os viajantes

Transporte

Rental vehicles are the best way to get around.

Public transportation is created for locals, not tourists. The tour buses are a great way to get historical insights and information about Juneau, but they will not take you to the grocery store or other locations on your bucket list. Taxi cabs can often be expensive and unreliable. This is why I recommend renting a car while you are in Juneau.
Reserve antes de ir

Book your excursions before your trip!

Most tour companies are booked well in advance, especially due to COVID-19.
O que levar

Dress to be in a rainforest.

Remember that Juneau is a rainforest and one must be prepared for rain! Your packing checklist should include; rain boots, hiking shoes, warm sweaters, sunglasses, sunscreen, and waterproof gear!
Costumes e cultura

Respect the land and culture.

Juneau is the homeland of the Aak w Kwaan and T'aaku Kwaan Tlingit people of Southeast Alaska. Scientific evidence shows that native Indigenous people have lived on this land for over 10,000 years. Please be kind and respectful to all while you are visiting. Thank you - Gunalcheesh

Limited indoor activities on rainy days

There are many outdoor activities kids can enjoy while in Juneau when the weather is nice, however activities quickly become limited for kids when the weather turns. Be prepared to dine and shop and head back to your hotel or B&B once the rain starts.
