For one, we’re in love with their lemon donut! These guys have, in our opinion, made the best bakery in Condesa. Ran by a young couple, Saint has made a bakery which could be mistaken for a military operation in the kitchen. The preciseness of their operation is simply incredible and means that the front staff can be calm and pleasant even with a queue around the corner on a Sunday morning. For food, these guys lead the way and you’re a lucky person if you can visit this place on your Sunday morning chill. For cool factor, I think these guys win the race. I’m personally a big fan of some of the staff wearing bobble hats in Mexico (the most amicable of global climates). I’d like to see their attire on a Wednesday morning commute in the middle of January in London. Akin to an Everest summit attempt I imagine but you can’t deny they’ve got fashion sense so we salute you. So, if you’re after a delicious piece of bread (in whatever form), a coffee to start your day and a cool atmosphere to get through your to-do list it has to be Saint in our opinion.

We have to say we’re big fans of this place too. For atmosphere Dominique is ticking a lot of boxes. If you’re looking for a bit of peace and quiet this is the perfect spot to start your Saturday. Mexico City is famously chaotic but at Patisserie Dominique you can hear yourself think. Good wifi makes this cafe a strong option if you’ve got some work to do. We love the design of this cafe. A seriously cool interior decor with white cobbled walls and dark wooden furniture. Then with tables sprawling out onto the streets of Roma Norte they’ve got the decor down to a point. Dominique has got the basics covered with wifi, ease to work etc. but are coming in hot because of their brilliant atmosphere and location.

Tacos Los Alexis is situated on a quiet street in Roma Norte called Calle Chiapas. I have been fortunate to live next door to them for a year now and this is without question the place to go for a top taco. We believe that half the battle with a taco stand is the personality of the chef and with Gino…. Well, just go and you’ll get it. Walking past you’d never know the quality of the food on show at this restaurant. A simple red and white sign to encourage you to enter but quickly you’ll realize you’ve entered Mexico City’s version of paradise. We recommend that you take a visit on the weekends as they will typically have a special on. But also highly recommended on a week day - have a seat and tell Dr Gino what’s on your mind. He’ll sort you out. Los Alexis is inspired by Tacos de asada norteños and Taurinos Chilangos style. This is a style in the north where you get some of the best meat in Mexico. This is also a perfect spot if you don’t mind a mezcal or two. They’ve got a delicious Espadin called Barro de Cobre we’re sure you’ll enjoy! As well as Carta Blancas if you’re just after a cerveza.

Tucked away in Roma Norte you can find Paramo up some stairs minding its own business. As you walk in you are overwhelmed by the amount going on to create the setting. Art all over the walls, a grandiose alcohol section and music playing from the rafters – you know you’re in for a fun evening. It’s certainly Mexican but you can also feel the modern vibes which attract a different sort of local. That’s not to say it’s snobby or anything like that – proven by the dogs running between your legs as you start on your first taco. It’s just that little bit more modern and premium which you’ll probably be after if you’re here on holiday.

Café Taco Bar simply has a great deal going for it. Top notch grub. An atmosphere fit for a solo evening or one to be shared with friends. And a bar man with sharpness that makes a Wagyu knife look a spoon. A cute little speak easy on appearance but actually a bar that is brought to life by a world class personality. Combine that with some delicious tacos and you’ve got yourself a great afternoon.

If you’re looking for a quick trip to Cuba there’s no better place than La Bodeguita. Mojito’s are flowing and there is writing over every single wall. We were particularly impressed by the speed in which the barmen can make mojitos. Our estimate is 5 a minute so you do the math! It’s a must to start off with a mojito but they also do your standard Mexican cocktails if one mojito is enough. You can either sit and soak in the Cuban culture or if you are more active pluck up the courage and dance salsa all night. The ambience will bring the charisma out of anyone with incredible Cuban music playing all through the evening. A great bar decision for anyone keen on something a little different but still in line with LatAm happiness on tap.

The first thing you’ll notice as you enter the bar is the impressive mezcal display in the background. Unlike your usual bottle display, which don’t get me wrong can also be a strong look, these guys have opted for ten containers / kegs of mezcal. All lit by a deep-red lighting to emphasize the power on display. Each container then has cables coming out of it to give it a Dexter’s Laboratory vibe. What’s also impressive is that none of these mezcals are branded – La Clandestina will go on mezcal tours to pick up the latest and greatest from Oaxaca. We need to get ourselves on one of those road trips someday…

When you sit down at Café O’Campo you can become so relaxed that the madness of CDMX behind you falls into nothingness. You are literally on top of a ten-lane intersection but the speakeasy vibe is apparently more powerful than ten metal objects flying behind your head per second. It’s got that perfect mix of sitting at the bar / standing on the street depending on what chat you want to be involved in. A great spot especially if you’d like to try something a little bit outside of the Roma / Condesa bubble.
