In the Esquilino quarter, in via Merulana, it preserves a semi-underground room decorated with frescoes, the only remains of the architectural complex belonging to Maecenas. The monument, traditionally known as Auditorium di Mecenate but in reality the ancient nymphaeum, is located within the public garden in Largo Leopardi (along the Via Merulana) and still well-preserved in its entirety; his discovery was made in 1874, through the major excavation work for the construction of the new district Esquilino, immediately after the proclamation of Rome capital of the Kingdom of Italy.

Ever been to Colle Oppio, one of the seven hills of ancient Rome? This green hill is far more interesting than you might imagine at first sight. Sometimes called Oppian Wonderland by archaeologists, Colle Oppio never ceases to amaze, one never knows what will emerge from this ancient Roman hill. Colle Oppio slopes gently down to the Colosseum on one side and to the Celio and Monti neighborhoods on the other. At the bottom end of Via Celimontana you’ll find the stairs to climb the hill that became a park -designed by Raffaele de Vico- in 1938. But don’t let the park’s sometimes dingy appearance fool you, Colle Oppio is one of the oldest and richest archaeological sites in Rome.

La Porta Alchemic, also known as Porta Magica or Hermetic Door or Gate of Heaven, is a monument built between 1655 and 1680 by Massimiliano Palombara Marquis Pietraforte at his residence, Palombara villa, situated in the countryside east of Rome on the Esquiline Hill to the position corresponding to today's Piazza Vittorio, where today was placed. La Porta Alchemy is the only survivor of the five gates of the villa Palombara lost on the arc of the door on the opposite side there was an inscription that can date it to 1680, there were also lost four other inscriptions on the walls of the building within the villa. According to legend, handed down in 1802 by the abbot and scholar Girolamo Francesco Cancellieri, a pilgrim stibeum was housed in the villa for a night. The "pilgrim", identified with the alchemist Francesco Giustiniani Bono, stayed for a night in the gardens in search of a mysterious grass capable of producing gold, the next morning he was seen to disappear for ever through the door, but left behind some gold particles result of a successful alchemical transmutation, and a mysterious card full of puzzles and magic symbols that would contain the secret of the Philosopher's Stone.
