If you have never experienced the awe that comes with driving into the Valley at dawn, I can’t recommend it enough. The south entrance road to Yosemite takes you up the southern crest of the Valley before popping you out onto one of the most awe-inspiring views of your life. Best part? No crowds. Sit for a spell until it’s daylight and then go jump in the river by El Cap meadows. If you arrive at the gate after 7:30am, expect to wait in line for a bit.

On the southern tip of the lake there’s a boat ramp, some local burgers and all the state parks. Highly recommended. For the more lively scene, head to the east side of the lake for brews and live music.

If you need a quick dunk or want to hang out on the beach without the sounds of powerboats, Manzanita lake is just down the way. There is a family picnic area there which sometimes hosts families and all the noise they come with but other times it's quite lovely.

This hike is lovely and close by. It's fairly accessible so it can get mighty crowded but it's pretty mellow and the continuous falls are trailside most of the way. Check out the AllTrails app for more hikes.

Bandit town is so weird and cool. It's open on the weekends. Check it out. I think they have music? And shopping? And definitely taxidermy.

Oakhurst is the burbs. There's 3 grocery stores, 3 auto parts stores, 3 gas stations, and 3 chiropractors. And then there's somehow approx. 435 thrift stores. We find ourselves there on the regular. It's about 25 min up the road if you avoid the lakeview drive.

It's around. Know what it looks like and stay on the trails. We haven't seen it on the property but it seems to be everywhere else.

Northern Pacific Rattlesnake
Danger Noodles, Buzz Worms, etc. They are common here. We haven't had any on the property but we've seen them hiking on several occasions. Keep your dogs leashed and your eyeballs open. They mostly want to be left alone and are kind enough to give a nice little warning rattle when spooked. They move slowly in the morning so just give them time to get off the trail and continue on your way. Don't try to kill them!
1)they are important to the ecosystem here and 2) they will bite you if you're being a jerk.
