The bar at the Peacock Hotel is beautiful and serves world class food in a relaxed atmosphere, with stone floors and a roaring log fire. Staff are immaculate in starched linen aprons and all food is locally sourced. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous for more formal dining, but we love having a cosy lunch or supper in here especially in the winter.

This is a short walk from the cottage and it is fantastic. The famous fight scene from The Princess Bride was filmed here! There is a Druid Stone Circle just behind the rocks and a Hermit's cave with a crucifix carved into the wall.

Stanton Moor is home to the famous Nine Ladies Stone Circle. Believed to date back to Bronze Age times, and a place where ceremonies one took place, possibly of a religious nature. The information board there tells the entertaining story as to how the stone circle got its name. Other fascinating features scattered around the moor include the Earl Grey Tower which was built to commemorate the passing of The Great Reform Act of 1832, and is named after the Prime Minister at that time. You can also marvel at a number of impressive gritstone rocks, such as the aptly named Cork Stone.

Set at the foot of the spectacular Winnats Pass, high above the village of Castleton, Speedwell Cavern takes you on an incredible underground boat journey. Descend the 105 steps from the almost hidden cave entrance to the landing stage of an underground canal where you step on to your tour guides' boat. From here you glide quietly through the workings of a 200 year old lead mine. Picture in your mind what it must have been like to carve out these tunnels using only the most primitive tools as your guide recounts the story of the mine which opens into a network of natural caverns and underground rivers.
