Punta Planka

Punta Planka is located in Razanj, Stivasnica Bay, the most prominent part of the eastern Adriatic coast, which geographically and climatically divides the Adriatic into northern and southern. It is a place where the north and south winds, cyclones and anticyclones, sea currents collide strongly. It breaks the largest waves of the Adriatic Sea and is ruled by the quietest bonacas imaginable. All this creates a gigantic natural spectacle that is not missed because something similar cannot be seen and experienced anywhere else. It was known to Greek sailors under the name of Diomedes cape even before the 6th century BC. K. Homer in "The Iliad" hints that, after the Trojan War, Diomedes himself, one of the greatest heroes of Greek mythology, sailed to him, and in the 4th century BC, the Greek historian Timey. K. described the unusual natural anomalies it causes. His description of the weather over the Cape of Diomedes is one of the oldest descriptions of a meteorological phenomenon in European culture. About the Cape of Diomedes in the 3rd century BC K was also written by a Greek scholar, father of geographer, astronomer and mathematician Erastoten, where one of the important episodes of the epic about the Argonauts occurs, and is mentioned in the 1st century by Pliny the Elder in "Natural History", the first encyclopedic work of European culture. One of the miracles attributed to the Christian saint Ivan Trogirski, 11th century Bishop of Trogir, is also associated with Punta Planka. According to legend, after the shipwreck at Cape Plank, walking on the waves saved King Coloman's life and all the sailors. In 1324, a votive church was built there to commemorate him and his marvelous works. The Church of St. Ivana is located on Cape Planka, in a desolate karst landscape and is protected by sacral heritage. The church is oriented east-west, rectangular in plan with a semicircular apse, and in front of the apse there is a simple altar on one leg. The church has a characteristic Gothic style, which is manifested in the broken form of the vault, and the Romanesque tradition is indicated by massive loops, and even older pre-Romanesque traditions are indicated by the partition of the walls in the interior with shallow arches between the beds. The massive form, the thickness of the walls, was built on occasions: although the church is more than ten meters away from the sea, it is still reachable by waves, so that it is exposed to the devastating effects of the village. The massiveness and rusticity of the church grew with the harsh cliffs.
