Food scene

If you are looking for a bite to eat with some beautiful views I would recommend Loch Leven’s Larder. The food is great and the views are just superb! The cafe is doggie-friendly too which is super convenient. Just be sure to book in advance, especially at the weekend. Once you’ve eaten you can then take a beautiful walk around the Loch, home to the historic Loch Leven Castle, where Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned in 1567 and if you walk far enough (around 4 miles on the walking path) you can get a ferry across and learn more about her.

Balgove is a hot with locals. It’s located on a farm on the right just before you arrive in St. Andrews by car. The food is fantastic ... I recommend their scones with Balgove Jam they are to die for! It can sometimes be really busy (especially at the weekend) so prepare for a short wait for a table. The farm shop and butcher is also a great place to pick up some homemade treats and lovely gifts.

There is a wide selection of places to eat in St. Andrews but one of my favourites is a restaurant called Forgans, here you will be able to sample traditional Scottish dishes and the atmosphere and decor is wonderful. Also, every Saturday night they host a traditional Scottish Ceilidh, think of it like a Scottish barn dance with traditional music and dancing, don’t worry they will teach you the moves and you will have brilliant fun! This is from 10:30pm so you could really make some amazing Scottish memories in a beautiful setting with great food and even better local drinks! You will need to book in advance though because it is really popular with tourists and locals alike.

The Adamson is perfect if you are looking for something a little more refined. The food is exquisite and worth the slightly higher price tag. You can also enjoy an aperitif or one for the road in their cozy cocktail bar just off of the the restaurant. Their cocktails are beautiful and their selection (and knowledge) of the finest Scottish Whisky on offer is unparalleled.

Sightseeing

The ruins of St. Andrews cathedral are well worth a visit. Stunning in themselves but if that doesn’t impress you enough just look at the stunning views off of the coast!
