Going to the Feria Verde is an experience itself, whether to buy fresh veggies or to just listen to Life Music and take in the local flair.

A DELI restaurant that has incredible platters for very reasonable prices. The vine however makes up for the bill, but comes together with a visit to their very own vine cellar. Ask for a desk on the terrace for incredible views on the valley.

I have tried every single German bakery in Costa Rica and this place is just like eating bred in Germany. It sells bred balls ("Brötchen") and the one in Esaczu has a larger variety than in Santa Ana, and doesnt sell out that fast. Make sure to stop by for a coffee and bring home some bred for your stay or travels.

Neighborhoods

A small town, which has pretty much remained a rural village, but with all the amenities on hand, such as banks, larger supermarkets, and stores. Because of its closeness to some lesser known protected areas of the Central Valley (such as the El Rodeo Protected Zone or La Cangreja National Park) and to the international courses offering Peace University, Cuidad Colon has bet on tourism and hence is maintained beautifully clean and safe. There are many English-speaking stores, offering vegan, organic and international products, as well as unusual but typical Souvenir shops. The little Food Market in the town's center and the organic fair held each Tuesday afternoon (1-6) are a Must-Go!

Sightseeing

Known as Cuidad Colon's best kept Secret, this former mine was completely restored and is now offering amazing views on the Rio Virillas canyon, underground caverns and tunnels, and beautiful gardens.

Local coffee growers have opened their fincas to mountain bikes, treckers and joggers. There is a 3500 colones entrance fee, but its worth it for a day trip, as nature abounds (watch out for 3 different species of Toucans!), and you can also rent a bike on site.

Another place to not only take in local customs of exercising, games and concerts (like the National Stadium), between 4 - 6pm you can see huge flogs of White-fronted Parrots resting coming to sleep in the trees along the southside avenue.
