Great food, everything on the menu is delicious. The fast friendly service is also why we keep going back for more. And it's only 10 min from the cabin.

Great place for breakfast and lunch. Vintage vibe with juke boxes still on the tables. Daily soup and lunch specials, awesome fries and onion rings. The Shorty's Melt, Huevos Rancheros and any flavor of shake, are our favorites.

A restaurant and a bike repair shop combine for a fun experience and great food. Indoor and outdoor dining available. Oh and don't forget to order one of the many, many delightful beers on tap. For the beer connoisseur, this is the place, the selection can change daily for local, domestic and international brews. The hot pretzel with beer cheese sauce, fries and ahi tacos are our favorites. They make their own ketchup and habanero sauce (go easy at first).

Limited menu, but delicious authentic homemade Mexican food. If you like it hot, ask for the special hot sauce they make with habanero and ghost peppers. Yikes! The carnitas and Chili Colorado are a favorite. The awesome taquitos are hand rolled and stuffed with beef or chicken.

Open Wed-Sat. One of our local favorites for a drink at the bar and tasty appetizers (amazing fried pickles) before sitting down to a great meal of tri-tip or prime rib (Black & Blue Prime Rib sandwich never disappoints) or one of the chef's specials like lamb curry with quinoa and cauliflower. Only 5 min (really) south on Gannett.

Closed Wednesdays. This is a fantastic dinner location for BIG appetites. Go very very very hungry. You may be tempted to skip the appetizers and dessert... don't! The menu is creative, local, and absolutely packed with delicious options, including vegetarian delights, if you have to.

Located just north of Ketchum this restaurant offer some nice high-end cuisine options such as escargot and beef carpaccio. We recommend reservations for a table in the bar area. It's cozier for dining than the formal dining room. Definitely say yes if they offer the popovers for the table. Steamed clams, fried chicken and lamb lollipops also a favorite of ours. Open 7 days a week.

Family friendly and great bar area, this is a locals hangout at happy hour. They don't take reservations so be prepared to wait if you arrive at dinner time. Lots of historic memorabilia on the walls which is a unique feature for "the Pio". We've snuck in and been seated right away if you arrive when they open and don't mind an early dinner. The beef ribs are insane, we order some for the table as soon as we're seated since they sell out early. The Jim Spud is a signature dish for them. Imagine an enormous prime rib stuffed baked potato. They do use msg in their teriyaki marinade so if you are msg intolerant, they will make it without. They also have a killer mud pie. Full Bar. Open 7 days a week.

Sightseeing and Events

Some of our favorite destinations and happenings in the Valley,
Anglers, bird watchers, oh... just about everyone loves this pristine preserve. Silver Creek offers some word class fishing for Rainbow and Brown Trout, some of the wisest fish that swim in the rivers. Patience and sometime 7x tippet is the only way to land the big 'uns. Easy walking trails can lead you through the preserve where you will also see a variety of water fowl and moose have been spotted from time to time. The extraordinary wild flowers will also delight you. Papa Hemingway and his son Jack were very involved in the getting this beautiful area set aside and it is now run by the Nature Conservancy. You can still see Hemingway's old duck blind on the bank. Be sure to sign in at the visitors center first, it is required but well worth it, you can learn about the importance of the preserve and its history. The volunteers are happy to give you the wildlife sightings report for the day, too.

Did you know the first chairlift was invented and installed here? It can be seen on one of the hikes up Proctor Mountain in Ketchum, only 45 minutes north of us.

Kechum, Idaho, 45 minutes from the cabin. The history of Sun Valley never ceases to amaze us. If your visiting around Labor Day, don't miss Wagon Days. The morning starts early on Saturday with a town pancake breakfast. Further up Sun Valley Road you'll find native american dancers celebrating and sharing their heritage with spectators. The costumes defy belief in color and beauty. They are usually followed by other visiting performers varying from local dancers to charro horseback riders. At 1pm the famous parade of motor-less sights begins. A spectacle of horse drawn carriages and wagons, beautifully dressed riders, and then amusing versions too. The parade culminates with the grand finally of the 20 mule team pulling an ore wagon train. The only place you can view this in the world. Plenty of shops and Wagon Day merchandise and food stalls are set up throughout Ketchum and there is music festival that starts up after the parade in the town square.

The photos don't do it justice. This several day event starts with world class dinners, cooking classes, and wool crafts that sell out quickly. The sherp dog trials go on during the week as well and although there is a $5 parking fee that supports the festival, it's worth a visit to see these spectacular hardworking dogs in action. The weekend culminates with a don't miss folk festival and the parade. The parade is short and sweet but a lovely example of small town pride. Make sure you stay til the end as the stars of the show are herded through Ketchum's Main Street, 1500+ sheep make there way south out of the Mountains to eventually end up in sunny California for the winter. No dogs allowed on the parade route.

Sightseeing

This is an incredible place to visit and learn about our local geology and native peoples. If you are interested in seeing the caves, we recommend long pants, close-toed shoes, gloves and head lamps (available upon request). Make sure you do not wear any clothing that you have worn in other cave systems. You will be asked at the park. This is to protect the local bat population from a white fungus that is killing bats.

Local Speed Limits

These small Mountain Towns have 25 mph speed limits. This is for everyone's safety and the local law enforcement is happy to remind careless motorists. Caution should be used in the evenings, wildlife abounds and it is not unusual to find deer and elk crossing the roads.
