The Botanical Garden was founded in 1984 by the Mountain Community of the Garfagnana and hosts the most significant species of the Orecchiella Park. The numerous and short paths that wind through it cover the different sectors in which the Garden is divided. The visit, in addition to the observation of the many plant species present here, has the meaning of a small naturalistic excursion that touches the most typical environments of the Apennine Garfagnana: we pass from the Apennine moors to the peat bogs and from the macereti and cliffs calcareous to the mountain pastures. In 2014 the Garden is registered to Maria Ansaldi, botanist and curator of the structure. The Garden offers guided tou

The Garfagnana is a beautiful, remote part of Tuscany that is overlooked by most tourists. It is a river valley with the Apuan Alps along one side and the Apennines to the other and there was a time when Elliott and I went on holiday there quite regularly for the walking and wild swimming but the mountain weather was always unpredictable and I have memories of being very cold and wet a lot of the time. Good weather for cheese making, however, and last week I returned to visit Verano Bertagni who makes pecorino at his small dairy in Pieve Fosciana.
