Parks & Nature

If you want a great view of the city with less crowds, come here instead of Arthurs Seat. This delightful walk combines the wooded nature reserve of the Hermitage of Braid with an ascent of Blackford Hill, giving superb views over Edinburgh. Sightseeing

The castle is a world famous icon of Scotland and part of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site. It was recently voted top UK Heritage Attraction in the British Travel Awards and is Scotland’s number one paid-for tourist attraction. I would advise booking your tickets online in order to beat the queues. Once up at the castle you can enjoy the spectacular views and rich history by taking a free live or audio guided tour. When you have finished exploring all the castle has to offer, there are two excellent cafes to sit and relax in. If you go to the Queen Anne Tearoom, be sure to try the delicious generously sized scones which are baked fresh everyday and served clotted cream and a selection of jams

Shopping

There's not many cities in the world where the most popular street of shops has a view of a medieval castle, but Edinburgh's Princes Street does just that! It's unique in the sense that all the shops only line one side of the street, with the other side giving shoppers breathtaking views of the Old Town cityscape. There is a plethora of shops including marks & spencers, Jenners, topshop, urbanoutfitters, apple, boots and many many more. Princes Street Gardens, which runs alongside is a venue for seasonal markets including the German Christmas Market. There is also the Farmers' Market selling fresh, homegrown produce is held every Saturday from 9am - 2pm up by Castle Terrace.
