The closest town, about 10 minute drive from us, is small but has wonderful restaurants, a great book store, a small-town movie theater and a grocery store. The hiking and rail trails in town are excellent too!

Hiking, walking and biking
A 10 minute drive up the mountain from our house brings you to our favorite nearby hike. You can go for 15 minutes or walk for an hour around the pond. Hiking shoes or boots and bug spray is recommended; trails are rocky, include some hilly areas and in some seasons may be somewhat muddy. The views around the ridge are worth it, and the historical trail markers honoring Sojourner Truth's journey on these same hills are worth checking out too!

143 Popletown RdA 10 minute drive up the mountain from our house brings you to our favorite nearby hike. You can go for 15 minutes or walk for an hour around the pond. Hiking shoes or boots and bug spray is recommended; trails are rocky, include some hilly areas and in some seasons may be somewhat muddy. The views around the ridge are worth it, and the historical trail markers honoring Sojourner Truth's journey on these same hills are worth checking out too!
This is a really great view and a very easy rail trail walk. If you walk south (towards New Paltz) on the trail there is additional hiking trails you'll find about 1/2 mile south of the trestle bridge. About a mil south is a pizza cafe right on the trail too!

Wallkill Valley Rail TrailThis is a really great view and a very easy rail trail walk. If you walk south (towards New Paltz) on the trail there is additional hiking trails you'll find about 1/2 mile south of the trestle bridge. About a mil south is a pizza cafe right on the trail too!
Directly behind the Rosendale Theater (at the back of the parking lot) is this short but arduous hike, which will quickly take you to the top of the mountain for a great view above the trestle bridge.

Very cool hike about 15 min away by car - starts out with a cool bridge, then there is a steep hill climb, and then a quiet preserve and hike all the way to the Hudson. we love this place!
