Arguably the most beautiful restaurant/hotel in the beach zone area. A good place to dine for a very special occasion (the prices are expensive).

I like aguachiles, which are shrimp cooked in brine with a bit of spice. Similar to ceviche. I do not guarantee anything about these restaurants. Please do your own research--I'm sharing these options as ideas for you to consider!

I like going to the beach club at Papaya Playa. It is a bit expensive (a minimum consumption price of $1000 MXN pesos per person, the last time I went), but a cabana and towels were included. I like their food options which include healthy vegetables and ceviches and things like that. I like their spicy margaritas. It is important to note that I do not guarantee anything about these restaurants. [like you could go and have a bad experience. we are different people!] Please do your own research--I'm sharing these options as ideas for you to consider!

If you're new to Mexico...I wanted to share that most people ask me if I eat breakfast tacos or burritos. I don't. I am Mexican (from Mexico City) and by far my favorite breakfast is "chilaquiles." Some people think that these look like nachos, but they're totally different. You should look them up if you haven't tried them yet! At any rate, I searched for a good place to get chilaquiles for breakfast, and I've been to this restaurant twice now. I like their chilaquiles, eggs, tortillas, cafe de olla, and more. I do not guarantee anything about these restaurants. Please do your own research--I'm sharing these options as ideas for you to consider!

This is the closest restaurant to our airbnb. The pathway/entrance to Kokoro is very beautiful. There is a small cenote (spring) as you walk in. The pathway is through the jungle (it has lights at night). I enjoyed my breakfast there. I felt that the prices were similar to Miami, where I live (expensive for Tulum).

I went here with my friend to try out a beach club with a more affordable entry price (about $15). They had food and drinks which were fine--but our favorite part of this day was that there was some dude in a helicopter that landed, picked up his lunch, and left. So funny, right? I'm writing this review as of November 2021 --definitely do your own research when looking up places to go. I'm just writing this to give you ideas -- I don't guarantee anything about these restaurants :-)

I went to El Doctorcito, a casual seafood eatery, for my wife's birthday during Summer 2022. I enjoyed large micheladas ("bloody mary"-style beers prepared with clamato juice and spices) and aguachiles (shrimp prepared in brine and sauces, similar to ceviche). I had a great time! I went swimming in a Cenote with bats. It was a little scary but I really loved the experience and I wouldn't trade it for the world. There are many types of cenotes to explore--underground "cenote" caves, open-air cenotes; with bats, with beautiful fish..everything! The only commonality between all of the different cenotes is the stunning cerulean blue water. Crystal clear and fresh.

I think Bacalar looks like the most beautiful place on earth. There is a lagoon there with the prettiest water I've ever seen. I'm Alex's wife (helping to write this guide) and I have never been to Bacalar but this is on my list for a fun day trip. It's a little bit far away (3 hours or so, I think), but I can't wait to see this magical town one day.

taxi info

People always ask us which taxi's we recommend. The first and only time we recommended a specific taxi company, the driver never showed up! We only visit Tulum once every couple of months or so, and things are always changing--the quality of the taxi drivers, new roads being built--literally, new roads appear every time we're there!!--so we urge the guests to make sure to do their own research so that their information is current. As of today, I can see that the Tulum Transport Company has the best taxi reviews in TripAdvisor. I hope this helps!

Sightseeing

Punta Allen is a small town in the Si'an Ka'an Biosfera Nature Preserve. I recommend Punta Allen because the water is very clear, the turtles and dolphins were beautiful, and I loved being surrounded by nature. Tips: -DO! Bring cash to pay the approximately $100 pesos (~5 USD) entry fee per person (as of summer 2022) -DO! Drive in an all-terrain vehicle (we rented a Ford Explorer) -DO! take a snorkeling boat tour. We paid $3000 pesos (~$150 USD) for a six-person, private boat tour. We snorkeled (equipment included), saw the turtles, dolphins, and went swimming in a beautiful clear, light blue/green water area -DONT! Wear sunscreen. It is prohibited and hurts the coral reef. I do not guarantee anything about restaurants/businesses listed. Please do your own research--I'm sharing these options as ideas for you to consider!
