Food scene

Reliable pub food in a lovely old, higgledy piggledy building. They serve a great Sunday lunch from midday through until about 9pm. This is our closets pub, which is just a 5 minute drive away. Lots of parking and a large grassy paddock to let the dogs have a sniff after a long drive.

We've been looking for a good quality Kebab house for ages - homemade bread, baba ganoush, grilled meat. This place isn't your standard UK kebab house, it's a cut above that. Located down the end of a light industrial estate, it's not the sort of place you'd expect to find such good food. But it's worth the drive.

A real local institution recently reopened by Verdant Brewery. They're a great, very cool set-up with a brewery, tap room and sea food bar over in Falmouth. Their beer is super lush and service is reliably great. Plus they've got freshly made pizza on the menu. Defo worth a look - you could walk from ours in about 40 mins, via Trevllas Porth.

These guys have just won 'Pub Of The Year' at the Visit England Awards, so booking is very much recommended. Outdoor space is not much more than a few tables in the carpark, but inside is lovely with a great variety of dishes that range from 'posh' bar snacks through to full blown gourmet 'pub grub'.

"Good Food, Good People". Canteen have been around in different guises and set-ups for about a decade now. They run the cafe at Mount Pleasent Eco Park and have just recently opened this place in Mount Hawke. Daily menu will generally have 1 meat option and 1 vegan option, with sticky cinnamon rolls and good coffee also available. I definately recommend. No bookings, just turn up and scoff.

One of our all time favourite beaches. No life guards, cafe or toilets, but all the better due to that. Amazing at high tide when the water comes up and gets funnelled in between the headlands, which makes a beautiful swimming spot. Dog friendly.

Our closest beach. It's about a 20 min walk from the house on single track lanes. There's no lifeguard, no toilet, no cafe. It's a bit rugged and the beach has a rocky reef that can make it a bit difficult to get in the water at mid tide. But it is one of the best in the area and a real locals favourite.

The remains of St. Piran's Oratory and also the 'church in the dunes'. The location where it's believed that St. Piran landed after being thrown into the sea by the Irish with a mill stone around his neck. Also an amazing place to take dogs for walks - large open space with lots of rabbits, other walkers, and occasional horses. You can walk right out to the beach, along the shoreline and then back along the MOD permissive path.

Ancient quay located on the River Fal. Beautiful, shady, tree lined paths alongside a creek and in amongst an ancient Iron Age Fort. You can get in the river when the tide is up, there are BBQ pitches on the quay and a small car park at the end of the very bumpy unmade road.

We haven't been for years, but in the past we've watched live, outdoor theater in the formal Italian gardens surrounded by Peacocks. We've also taken our dog for walks up through the estate, past the formal gardens and deep into the wilderness, eventually up to the Iron Age Fort. It's beautiful, quiet and bit off the beaten track.

Miles of SSSI dunes, the location of St. Piran's Church & Oratory. The perfect dog walking location, perhaps in Cornwall. Go through Perranporth and up the hill, take a left at the sharp bend at the top of Budnic Hill, and just by Tollgate Farm Caravan Park, and there is lots of pull-ins off the road to park up.
