Here you can purchase a permit to enter the forest ($5.00 per car) and to visit the Tarawera Falls. You don't need a four wheel drive vehicle as the roads in the forest are good.

Wonderful pools that all FREE. There are various sized pools for kids including a 25m for swimming and a giant Spa pool with temp 38-40C. There's a kids area to play around in, plus a dry bouncing pillow and lastly changing rooms with hot showers.

A safe swimming beach with kids, great surfing beach, stunning walking track from Whakatane to Ohope or walk the other way Ohope back to Whakatane. Otarawairere Bay is a secluded beach which is dictated to by the tide and offers interesting rock exploring.

Mountain biking tracks
The redwood forest located in Rotorua is Internationally reknowned. Set in the stunning redwood forest it too has a vast range of different mountain biking grades from beginners to grade 5. Tracks also available for trail runners.
Take your own water supplies, as there's nothing there. A camera or phone, to photograph the parks map, found at the entrance is also a good idea as phone coverage maybe limited.
