Ka’ena Point trail will lead you to a protected sanctuary for nesting albatross located at the outer most west point of the island. Only accessible by walking, this area is remote and provides habitat for native seabirds, and plants. Along the scenic way you may also be able to spot Hawaiian monk seals sunbathing near rocky tide pools, and also some humpback whales in the coastal waters during breeding season.
The start of the trail on the Waianae side is at the end of the paved road at the Keawaula Section of Ka’ena Point State park. The dirt road is 2.4 miles to Ka’ena Point Natural Area Reserve. We recommend you bring plenty of water and sun protection, the trail becomes hot and dry especially during summer months.
Please stay at reasonable distance from protected animals (monk seals, albatross, sea turtles) and do not disturb them.
Trail head located 7.6 miles away form this apartment (20 minute driving time).
Trail length is 5.6 miles roundtrip, and very little elevation (about 3 hours)
