Sightseeing

About 600 meters as the crow flies from our house, Casa Pueblo was the creation of Uruguayan artist Carlos Paez Vilaro. It now includes a hotel, time shares, a museum, and restaurant. It is probably the top tourist destination in the area but the crowds do not affect our part of the neighborhood. We hear and see nothing. Casa Pueblo is worth a visit or two, especially for sunset. Get to the restaurant (minus 9 floor) an hour before sunset to get a good seat, order drinks, and wait for glory. (The entrance fee to get into the complex comes off your restaurant bill.) The food in the restaurant is overpriced and not great. Everything is about the sunset. The museum is also worth a visit.

Don't be confused by this map. There is a lookout on Highway 10 with a stunning view of the Solanas bay, but what I am trying to signal here is the Mirador or lookout at the end of the street, Carlos Paez Vilaro. This is a municipal park and a place where so many come to watch the sunset. It is beautiful, but often very crowded. It is roughly a 40 to 45 minute round trip walk from Gitche Gumee. On one of those legs, you should take the road directly in front of Casa Pueblo.
