This tiny secluded cabin is nestled in the woods and is a warm and cozy retreat in the winter with its little woodstove, a quiet off-grid retreat from modern life.

'Oma's Cabin' is located up Tunket Road in the Mettowee Valley of Pawlet, VT - our driveway is also the trailhead for Haystack Mt., so you have a spectacular hike out your front door. Originally built by my mom as a retreat while visiting her grandkids, it is now available for guests (when she's not using it).

O espaço
The cabin is 12' x 12', and has
- No electricity.
- No running water, but we provide water in a full 5 gallon jug that can be refilled as necessary.
- No linens.

Aside from that, the cabin has all you need for a quiet getaway: a kitchen, a woodstove, a front porch, a fire circle, an outhouse, and hundreds of acres of forest. The kitchen has a two-burner propane stove, a cooler, dishes, utensils, pots, and pans (everything you might need). For sleeping, this cabin has two camp mattresses in the upstairs loft.

A one-of-a-kind quiet, secluded setting for relaxing and recharging, this 144 sq ft cabin is much like luxurious camping:
- You’ll need your own sheets, sleeping bags, pillows, and towels; linens are not provided.
- The cabin has a small woodstove, but bring warm clothes also, so you can enjoy being outside.
- 5 gallons of drinking water will be provided.
- There is an outhouse with a sawdust bucket toilet.
- There is no electricity or WiFi - please bring headlamps for light.
- Cell service is very limited - cabin sometimes gets one bar.
- Hiking out the front door.

Nearby Recreation: The Haystack Mountain Trail, part of The Nature Conservancy’s North Pawlet Hills Natural Area and a popular day hike featuring a 360-degree view of surrounding mountains and the Mettawee Valley from the summit, is within walking distance of the cabin (3 miles out-and-back).
If you choose to leave your secluded retreat, Owl’s Head Trail, Equinox Mountain, and Lake Saint Catherine State Park are all nearby, providing additional opportunities to hike and swim.

Farm: Our off-grid property is a working homestead and farm, stocked with heritage breed animals. We have a small flock of laying hens, a couple of geese, and a herd of 40 American Milking Devon cattle. The upper portion of our farm is entirely off-grid solar, and the buildings have been built by us over the past 25 years. If you're curious, the development and building of our homestead was detailed in the 2010 book 'Up Tunket Road', which can be found on Amazon and is also available for purchase in the cabin.

Gas and groceries are available at Sheldon's and Mach's Market, both in the village of Pawlet (4 miles away), or in the larger town of Granville, NY (7 miles away). There are two restaurants in Pawlet, and other restaurants and cafes in the nearby towns of Wells, Poultney, Granville, Middletown Springs, Dorset, and Manchester. We will be happy to give you recommendations.

Guest Amenities:
This cozy cabin has a propane cookstove, a woodstove, an outhouse with a sawdust bucket toilet, and a bucket shower (heat water, pour in, hoist up - summer use only).

Other things to note:
1. Our driveway is 1 mile long - and a little rustic. You will need to proceed carefully so as not to damage your car. Parking at the cabin is a 200 ft walk to cabin. As another option, we also have parking available closer to the main road, but it will require a 3/4 mile walk to the cabin. Whichever you choose, please be prepared to carry your gear that distance.

2. You will need sleeping/camping gear! Bedding, sleeping bag, pillow, towels, and headlamps are suggested. There is a small woodstove, but please bring warm bedding. Vermont can be chilly in the spring and fall, and sometimes even summer evenings - please bring clothing that is warm enough.

3. The kitchen has a two-burner propane stove (light with matches). There is a cast-iron frying pan, pots, teakettle, dishes, cups, and utensils provided. A Melitta is also provided, so that you can make fresh pour-over coffee in the morning, and a cooler - you will need to provide ice. Guests are expected to wash all dishes used before they leave.

4. This cabin has no electricity. There is a battery-powered lantern provided but headlamps are suggested.

5. There is an outside fire circle. Fire is allowed in the fire circle and a grill and hot dog/marshmallow roasting sticks are provided. If you need assistance please ask before attempting to make a fire. Please be very careful and use restraint when adding wood. There is some firewood available, also a bow saw provided to cut dead wood from the forest.

6. Drinking water will be provided in the form of a 5 gallon igloo water cooler - it is excellent quality well-water or spring-water from the property. We can provide more as needed.

7. Pets are allowed but must be kept under control and attended.

Onde você estará

Pawlet, Vermont, Estados Unidos

Welcome to our beautiful corner of Vermont! We fell in love with this area and this land 20 years ago and slowly built our off-grid homestead. The cabin is off in the woods, surrounded by hundreds of acres of conserved forestland. The locally-well-known Haystack Mountain hiking trail is a short walk from the cabin. Within driving distance are cute Vermont towns, restaurants, and cafes, as well as other hikes and picturesque swimming holes. The roads around here and in New York State are also sought after for motorcycle riding and bicycle riding. Nearby towns have rail trails and mountain bike trails.
