This is my favorite ride from home to Aspen, CO. If doing a day trip leave early to make a full day trip so you will have time to tour Aspen and eat. The pass is usually opened around Memorial day until fall depending on snow. This is a thrill ride winding around the mountain to Aspen. Check out the thrift stores and consignment shops...you will find some good deals!

Independence Pass, originally known as Hunter Pass, is a high mountain pass in the Rocky Mountains of central Colorado in the United States. It is at elevation 12,095 ft on the Continental Divide in the Sawatch Range. The pass is midway between Aspen and Twin Lakes, on the border between Pitkin and Lake counties

Hwy 82 over Independence Pass closed during the winter. Top of the Continental Divide. Tricky Road. Save for your summer visit.
