Manastiri i Shën Gjergjit is another place not far from the city of Saranda, on the way to Ksamil. This 14th-century monastery sits on top of a hill and has a spectacular view. It’s also in great condition. The path to the Manastiri i Shën Gjergjit is not in great condition so beware if you are a little older because the surface isn’t the best to walk on.

The Monastery of Saint George is located about 15 minutes south of Saranda town center. You can get to the monastery by car or bus, then climb the hill to the top where the monastery is located. The climb up isn’t too bad along a dirt road. There are large rocks and rubble along the road so it is not suitable for vehicles but may be OK for a good scooter. If travelling by car, there is an area next to the main road where you can park your vehicle while you visit the monastery. The monastery is located on the hill of Dema with great views over the Ionian Sea and Lake Butrint.
