I happen to really really like Ethiopian food. Calgary only has about three Ethiopian restaurants, but I like this one best because the food is delicious (greasy, but delicious) and the location's super handy. It's been around for years and years, run by the same folks, so they must be doing something right.

I super like this place, but I'm biased because I'm a vegetarian. Everyone I've even gone with that eats meat also said the food was really good though. Not super cheap but not super expensive either unless you order one of their fancy cocktails.

This place is pretty divey, and not in a cool, hipster sort of way - but sometimes that's just what you're looking for. Definitely not pretentious. The potato nachos are so bad, but so good. I try not to go on karaoke night.

There are a few OJs around these days, but this one has been around for a while and is a Marda Loop staple. I usually only go in the summer though, for the patio.

If you like beer and feel like going for a bit of a walk, I highly recommend a visit down to this local brewpub that operates out of an old army airport hangar in what used to be CFB Calgary. The patio's great but it's fun even inside in the winter. Good fresh food too. Just be aware that this land is still at least partially an army base (there are, like, two soldiers left) and sometimes later at night they close all the gates into the property, except for the main ones you come in off of from Crowchild Trail.
