The name is an amalgam of the street name, the atmosphere and the style of place. It certainly has a fresh, energetic feel with its whites, greys and blues, its cascading 'petals' and its semi-open kitchen. The French cuisine comes with a healthy dose of creativity, in both the preparation and presentation; there are also Asian influences, in dishes such as the Alaskan salmon teriyaki - and an impressive selection of over 30 French cheeses. - MICHELIN guide inspectors ***** Phone : +85225170977 Website: : http://www.upper-bistro.com Meal prices : Lunch: set(HKD 268/348) - à la carte(HKD 420/820) Dinner: set(HKD 788) - à la carte(HKD 420/820) Good to know : reservations required

Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking! ***** Situated next to Sheung Wan market, this traditionally styled, simple but well maintained barbecue shop has been run by the same family since the mid-1970s. Over the years they've built up an appreciative following so the small place fills quickly. The appetising looking suckling pigs are not the only draw: roast pork, duck and pigeon all have their followers, as do the soft-boiled chicken, the homemade sausages and the preserved meats. - MICHELIN guide inspectors ***** Phone : +85225412207 Meal prices : Lunch: à la carte(HKD 40/150) Dinner: à la carte(HKD 40/150) Good to know : reservations not accepted

Bjorn Frantzén's first restaurant outside Sweden aims to bring Nordic cooking with an Asian influence to Hong Kong. He gave the head chef full autonomy on its concept, from the menu to the interior. A sleek but cosy warmth characterises the décor. Every course has a story to tell and matches perfectly with their exciting wine list and Scandinavian craft beers. Food comes in moderate portions so that diners can try more variety. - MICHELIN guide inspectors ***** Phone : +85225598508 Website: : http://www.frantzenskitchen.com Meal prices : Dinner: à la carte(HKD 600/1000) Good to know : reservations required

* One MICHELIN Star : High quality cooking, worth a stop! ***** his is where culinary theatrics raise counter dining to new heights. The 8 course menu offers skilfully executed and innovative dishes that use French and modern techniques with Chinese flavour, from sous-vide to smoke guns. Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking! ***** Kau Kee has been trading since the 1930s and has consequently built up a huge following that you'll probably have to line up in the street first to eat here. The Chairman looks to small suppliers and local fishermen for its ingredients and much of the produce used is also organic. Showing respect for the provenance of ingredients, and using them in homemade sauces and flavoursome dishes such as steamed crab with aged Shaoxing, crispy chicken stuffed with shrimp paste and almond sweet soup, has attracted a loyal following. Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking! ***** The queues form early for the ramen here, with many of the customers coming for the Tsukemen ramen, as well as the Abura and special soup ramen. The shop makes its own noodles - which you can have thick or thin - but it is the sauce at the base of the slow-cooked soup that really makes the difference: it's fermented for 18 months in a 100 year old wooden basket and adds richness and depth. - MICHELIN guide inspectors ***** Phone : +85228506009 Website: : http://www.shugetsu.com.hk Meal prices : Lunch: à la carte(HKD 89/150) Dinner: à la carte(HKD 89/150) Good to know : reservations not accepted

A bakery set up by two guys serving French-style bread with a Japanese twist – this is what I consider the only place to buy bread in Hong Kong. While tricky to find – tucked into a leafy cul-de-sac at the end of Po Hing Fong – once you’ve tried the sourdough, it will become a firm favourite. The bread is also served (alongside delicious coffee!) at the boys’ popular café located behind the bakery: Café Deadend. ***** Po’s Atelier, 70 Po Hing Fong, Hong Kong, www.facebook.com/posatelier

This café has the best ‘Poho vibe.’ Think freshly baked cakes and pastries, authentic teas and cute stools outside. The Cupping Room is a fave (one is located just around the corner from our office!) and this spot is where the coffee beans are roasted to perfection. We couldn’t decide if this was technically in or out of PoHo, but thought it was worth mentioning. You can grab a quick coffee or have a chat in its super cool but cosy café. ***** The Cupping Room Roastery, Shop 8, Silver Jubilee Mansion, 62-72 Po Hong Fong, www.facebook.com/CuppingRoomHK

Ladder Street is a historic stone step street in Sheung Wan that was built between 1841-50. It is one of the few remnants of the colonial period that can be experienced by visitors interested in the history of Hong Kong. It is an interesting place to spend a bit of time when visiting HK. This registered monument links Queen's Road Central to Caine Road, climbing up 350 metres, some of which is quite steep. Take your time on hot days and rest when you need if trying to ascend the full length of Ladder Street. Ladder Street passes through the antique markets and many curios stalls at and around Hollywood Road and nearby Upper Lascar Row.
