Food Scene and Wine Tasting

Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Nehalem and Seaside offer numerous dining options with an emphasis on locally sourced seafood such as salmon, halibut, exquisite Dungeness crab, oysters, clams, mussels and shrimp . Family dining and gastro pubs are well represented as well intimate gourmet offerings for that special event. Wine lists are extensive and feature the excellent wines of the Pacific Northwest such as the renowned Tualatin and Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. A memorable day of wine tasting is a little over an hour away to the fabled areas of Newberg, Sherwood, McMinnville and others. There are tour operators who can provide door to door service or embark on a self guided tour with a designated driver.
Great local brews and very solid pub fare at very reasonable prices. You can have your dog with on the patio outside. The oyster burger is nothing short of remarkable. At $8.50 it is the bargain of the century.

Owned by the same folks who operate Bill's Tavern. Menu has some great entrees. Moderately priced. The bar can be a lively place with friendly folks. They have an outside beer garden where dogs are welcome. The water bowl is always full!

I include the Driftwood because of their happy hour on the deck (with fire top table). M-F 4 to 6 PM. Lots of folks with their dogs. You can get a tasty cheeseburger and a local IPA for $9.90. Wait staff is very friendly and provide excellent service.

We love the Big Wave on Highway 101 in Manzanita. Don't be deceived by the exterior. Interior is updated with clean design and great light. This is our favorite breakfast place and doesn't have the long waits as Cannon Beach. The owner also operates culinary schools in Portland and Chicago which is very evident in all aspects of the operation. The Big Wave is next to the cannabis store if one is so inclined.

The views of Cannon Beach are some of the most photographed in the country. Hike to secluded beaches and along towering ocean bluffs which reflect the dangerous beauty that abounds.

Hike the Oregon Coast Trails and traverse Mt. Neahkahnie through old growth Doug Fir and Western Red Cedar to Short Sand Beach where you might see two hundred surfers. The five mile round trip hike to Cape Falcon rewards sure footed hikers with sunning views.

Shopping

If you are provisioning for a large group, a stop at the Costco in Warrenton, OR can be part of a day trip to Astoria, Fort Stevens State Park or The Lewis and Clark National Historic Park. The Costco is a manageable 30 minute drive from Malarkey's Roost. Buying in bulk for a large group can reduce your grocery bill by 30% or more when compared to the very pricey and limited selections of the small specialty markets in Cannon Beach and Mazanita. There are great farmers markets on Monday in Cannon Beach and Friday evening in Manzanita. Great selection of local foods and specialty foods and usually live music from some of the great local talent.
