Friends and family have all reported that Flagstaff Extreme is a fun way to spend the day! It's about 14 miles from our house, and it will take around 30 minutes to drive to their location.

Built in 1904 for two Riordan families, it is a remarkable example of Arts and Crafts style architecture featuring a rustic exterior of log-slab siding, volcanic stone arches, and hand-split wooden shingles. The Riordan residence was designed by the creator of Grand Canyon's El Tovar Hotel, Charles Whittlesey.

The landscape appears to be totally uninhabitable so it is hard to believe that the ancient people were able to grow corn and squash... Even more amazing was the distance of the trade routes. Items from both the pacific and gulf coast have been unearthed here..."

Antelope Canyon is one of the most photographed slot canyons in the American Southwest because of the beautiful colors of the twisted and sculpted rock formations. There are two locations, the upper and lower canyons. The upper is better for those not able to traverse stairs.
Reservations are highly recommended and often are NOT available on the same day. Antelope Canyon is on Navajo land east of Page, Arizona, and you must take a tour. Walking around on your own is not allowed. It is located 140 miles from our home, and will take at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours to drive.

This is one of my favorite trails in the immediate area around our home. There was a fire in the area in 2017, but it didn't diminish much of the beauty surrounding the trail. It's rated moderate in difficulty, but if you aren't used to the high elevation, it will seem harder. The steep trail is 9.5 miles up and back, with 2680 feet in elevation gain. I do recommend taking at least one hiking pole, as snow and ice can stick around at the top well into the warm months, making some of the switchbacks slippery. Wear good shoes, sunscreen & take plenty of water.

Also known as Havasupai Falls, the turquoise water and red rock surroundings of these four separate waterfalls are spectacular. While definitely in Northern Arizona, Havasu Falls are not near Flagstaff. The trailhead is at Hualapai Hilltop, Supai, AZ 86435, a 3-4 hour drive from our home.

The road is generally good, but to be safe a 4 x 4 vehicle is recommended. As with all road travel in Arizona, be sure to take plenty of water.
