18 miles away a pleasant small city. Find the smallest pub in Britain The Nutshell. Saturday Market with good food stalls. Visit the cathedral and free gardens next door. Fantastic restaurant Maison Bleue half price almost at lunchtime.

Really good zoo and it's at the bottom of the road. Do check the prices before promising the kids! Take a picnic but there is a basic restaurant. The bird show is a laugh generally. I think you can get a hand stamp and return later in the day.

Visit Cart Gap for the seals about an hours drive away, see Horsey wind pump (National Trust) and some of the northern Broads on the way. If you find the Nelson Head in Horsey they will if you ask almost certainly let you park your car for free. Good lunch time food and ale. Leave the pub behind you and take the bridleway to the sea by the first house on the bend.

I believe the largest common green in England. The Ox and Plough generally has a few cask ales on and the landlord makes his own pasties or sausage rolls. He does not do food beyond this! The small airfield close has a decent cafe. In summer on a Tues eve there is a two wheel Tuesday with often over 500 bikes. Basic burgers etc available if the weather is clement.

Try the Burston Crown. Good food and ale. I haven't been since it recently changed hands . They look after the strike school behind the church and hold the key for you to visit. It boasts the longest strike in Britain. A May Day must when trade unions turn up to remember. Look up Burston school strike online.

Good pub food and ale. Approximately 6 miles via E Harling. pop into the only English whiskey distillery and Swallow aquatics next door on the way. The latter is good for kids on a rainy day, a massive fish selection and many animals. No charges to visit either The trick is to walk through the first part of the shop. The Angel is a long time favourite of ours. Andrew is a great Norwich supporter and there is a nice walk via the footpath behind the pub over the A11 to Larling Church without electricity.

One for the kids and pleasant sign posted walks. There are some BBQ units on site, you need to take charcoal. Bike hire available. Tip, get a map and park on a road 2 miles away. it saves a fortune at the Country Park parking which is about 3 miles from nearest highway.

This is here because it has a bar and ice cream kiosk for the campers in the middle of no where! and there are footpath circular routes here. A public path goes through the site. Utilising a map find Sandy Gap on the River Thet at Bridgham and park here, play pooh sticks on one of the cleanest rivers in Britain. Try geocaching which introduces circular routes around this part of Thetford forest. If you can find the lodges with hot tubs use their good restaurant on a deck. On one perimeter West Harling church is worth approaching. Look out for mushrooms, snakes, deer, wild raspberries and strawberries. Great for off road cycling with a few bomb holes as mentioned in Park Common. Peddars Way bridge is close as well. This long distance route starts at Knettishall and heads 43 miles off Rd to Heacham Seahenge.

1.5miles away The Q makes it a very old English village with Roman links. They say Boadicea is buried here on the mound close and opposite the church near the river. If you can identify from a map 'My ladies mile' as you head away to East Harling, it was put in by King Edward VII as was East Harling rail station when he visited Kenninghall Lodge. It allowed his mistress Lady Keppel to visit separately with him unseen. Interestingly Charles has married her great great grand daughter! The Carmelite monetary with its small band of 'silent' nuns is passed on the way there. Our nearest RC service !0.30 am Sundays. Sister Wendy the art critic lived here in a caravan as she had to speak!

Past the Montessori, right at the road over the stream and left up the hill at the hedge line right along what was an old Roman Rd from Quidenham. With a map maybe you can find the Roman Tumuli. Keep going and use the Garden House with it's new American style smoke house for refreshments or keep going to Old or New Buckenham or return via footpaths through Banham village.

If you are near Diss go and hunt the rare raft spiders. https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/amazing-story-of-the-hand-reared-spiders-1993982at Raft spider. Just through Redgrave try Star Wing Brewery currently a field with cover to try their beer selection and there is generally good food available as a light format. We brought home 6 pints of Jersey milk from a 6 cow herd. The pork burger with named pig was excellent. The brewery has one of the last bakers operating freelance in the brew house itself, he is a character. Check their Facebook page prior. Occasional live local bands in their home built amphitheatre. Very close is the large Blooms garden nursery and Steam Museum.

Behind the zoo on the way by footpath to Kenninghall Red Lion there is a tiny locally acknowledged shrine to a crashed WW2 plane taking off from Snetterton. Too heavy to get off the ground you can try and spot the chimney rebuilt where it was clipped opposite. On many footpaths close, keep an eye out for bomb holes as planes jettisoned part of their load to get 'up'. See Sandy Gap, there are similar close in the woods.

If you are near The Angel or Swallow aquatics take a tiny detour down the road opposite Swallow past the industrial estate for 2 miles to the medieval village by the ruined church. In season get your asparagus. There are circular footpath walks utilising an OS map. The distillery making The first English whiskey is also worth a visit on the way.

Find the spring a short walk down the track it's on the O S map. A sleeper bridge on the footpath goes the down side of it. Once used by the Banham village as a source of cold water in summer. They had no fridges. It's by the oak tree planted 1959. If you gently clear the water cress the side toward the oak so you don't disturb the sand you can see it bubbling.
