Another charming and mystical place. That offers a really pleasant and simple walk from the Car Park on the edge of Wycoller, down the footpath, along the lane and onto the old cobbled fords, the stone bridges and the ruins of the Hall. The Cafe offers welcome respite before a gentle stoll back.

Widely reputed to be the inspiration for Wuthering Heights, it doesn't matter if your visit to Haworth has been inspired by the Bronte Sisters or not, you really ought to make the Moors and Top Withens a must visit. Emily Bronte wrote "Make the world stop right here. Make everything Stop and stand still and never move again. Make the moors never change and you and I never change." And the Moors are as intriguing today as they were the day Emily Bronte wrote them.

Sweeping views and magical moorland. Just a short walk or drive from Haworth, Penistone Hill derives it's name from the gambling game Gamepenny Stone, it is known that men from the local quarries would gather here to gamble over this game. What this game actually entailed is well-debated (come up with your own ideas or ask around to see if you can discover more maybe) but what we do know is that partaking in the game often resulted in being brought before the local magistrate for playing on the highway or even for playing on a Sunday. A pleasant couple of hours can be spent here morning, afternoon or evening.

A beauty spot of the South Pennines with more than 160 hectares (400 acres) of unspoilt woodland. The 20 minute drive there alone is worthwhile with some stunning views. As well as being the home of the northern hairy wood ant, there are tumbling streams, glorious waterfalls and stacks of millstone grit, all crisscrossed by more than 15 miles (24km) of footpaths. At its heart is Gibson Mill, a family-oriented and dog friendly visitor centre, telling the history of the valley over the past 200 years, with displays and exhibitions. Having no link to the national grid, the mill is unique in the UK and is the Trust's flagship sustainable building.

How can we not mention the Pennines, we are in effect in the middle of them! There are hundreds of Walks, Cycles routes, Bridleways and scenic drives that span this stunning range of hills and mountains. Plan your day and cast aside your worries on the Pennines! Is there anything better?

More than a Museum this marvallous Hall was Built in 1642 by a wealthy Halifax clothier, James Murgatroyd, now a Grade 1 listed Hall and owned by the National Trust. With intimate gardens and natural play areas, including the mud pie kitchen and den building corner, for families to enjoy. For the Historians amongst you, well there's the fascinating story of the Brigg Brothers, William and John were twins, they saw the importance of the property saving it from neglect, disrepair and demolition. Not once but twice, firstly in the early 20th Century, when they paid £2000 to buy back previously sold fittings and tried to raise funds locally before sadly having no option but to sell it on. And then again in 1933 purchasing the Hall again, along with 12 acres of land, from a man who had planned to demolish and rebuild the hall elsewhere. They gifted it to the National Trust the following year!

Originally the home of Henry Isaac Butterfield, perhaps one of the first true millionaires, his family's industrial empire included wool textile mills and a shipping business that took his goods to the rest of Europe, America and China. The completed house was a showpiece of international art and French decoration. The scene of many glittedring social events as the Butterfield family connections included the Roosevelt's of America and members of the court of Napolean III. Cliffe Castle has undergone major restoration in recent years and visitors can now see sparkling Victorian Rooms and furniture, paintings and decorative art.

Unique, interesting, educational but mostly fun. A great family day out particularly if you have children between 0 and 11. Just 30 minutes drive away - this is a must for a good few hours if you are bringing the kids.

A museum-like shop with old apothecary, warmly lit glass globes, lotions, portions, balms and soaps. It's the key reason we put a bath in Withens Way Holiday Cottage and not just a shower. Just one of the wonderful shops on Main Street, just a moments walk from the Cottage.

The Fleece Inn, a cracking spot becasue it's half way up the hill (or down it). Pop to one of the many Pubs that Haworth has to offer. For Lunch, Dinner or just for a G&T, Glass of Wine or a Pint of Yorkshires finest. There's so much to do in the area which is why a short break just sometimes isn't long enough, if your staying in Haworth for 7 nights then a pub crawl (responsibly!) has got to be in the plan hasn't it!

About 170 metres from the Cottage, just follow the cobbles. Best for a Pint, pop by as a part of your pub visits (to establish which is your favourite pub of course). Right at the top of Main Street, you'd do well to beat the location. A long history dating back to the 16th Century, in September 1792 it became the seat of the Lodge of the Three Graces Haworth and the masonioc seat used by Branwell Bronte still resides on the staircase inside.

Even closer to the Cottage door than the Black Bull, again just follow the cobbles and you are welcome to have a pint and some traditional fayre here. A former coaching inn with many cosy features. We've said this on our other pub listings but we have to say it again, a short break just sometimes isn't long enough, if your staying in Haworth for 7 nights then a pub crawl (responsibly!) has got to be in the plan.

A more modern offer but wow what an offer. A great diverse range of home hand crafted brews from 'Gods own County' (so they say, I'm a Lancastrian, I struggled to write that - but those Yorkshiremen know how to brew beer!) Thye've got a selection of Bottled beers too for those wanting to take-away. If you like a drink, add this to your list immediately!

Just a short distance from Haworth, Steam Railway fans will appreciate the Station here too as it's the terminus for the Keighley and Worth Valley line. Another super little place to spend a couple of hours - if you visit at the right time of year you might be lucky enough to see the Oxenhope Straw Race - where competitors carry a bale of straw stopping at each pub on the route for a Pint - sound like our kind of game (are we allowed a wheel barrow!?)

The stunning Market Town of Skipton, with a market every Monday, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays (double check listings online before you travel), it's a marvellous place to let time while away. Stop off in a Pub for Lunch or add the Castle into your trip and make a day of it. If you do make a day of it pop to see the Thanet Canal, a short branch of the famous Leeds and Liverpool Canal that used to load limestone from local quarries onto the boats for onward shipment. And browse the beautiful cobbled back streets.

Wander the creative, bohemian streets of Hebden Bridge, and you can feel the influence of the writers and artists who flocked to the town around the 70s and 80s. From artisan shops and inspiring galleries to organic pavement cafés and charming picture houses, the town is justifiably proud of its artistic identity. Just a few minutes away you will find pretty wooded valleys and picturesque heather moorland.

Sowerby Bridge is where the Calder & Hebble Navigation and the Rochdale Canal meet on the edge of the Pennines. Once an industrial centre, now trendy pubs and cafes fill many of the old canal buildings. The area is well known for its walking and cycling routes across and around the Pennines too. What a facinating place to explore the history of weaving, water mills and the role our canals played during the industrial revolution.
