Jack Dempsey's is THE place to go for heaping helpings of seafood. It's been there since the 1930's. Restaurants don't last that long for no reason. It's a great place to visit for lunch or dinner whether it be date night or the entire family. Do yourself a favor and get some of their delicious gumbo or soft shelled crab and enjoy some of the best the city has to offer.

Elizabeth's is one of the best restaurants in the neighborhood. They are usually packed as the word has slowly gotten out about this neighborhood gem. The place to go for comfort food, fresh seafood and fine dining quality in a super casual atmosphere. Voted 7th best brunch in America by Travel and Leisure magazine so be prepared to wait on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Get there when they open for prompt seating.

The Bywater's newest sausage factory! But seriously, They make their own sausages and fresh baked pretzels. This German owned biergarten is known for it's beer, brats and family style outdoor seating. My favorite dish is the hunter schnitzel. If you're in the mood for something a little different, this is your spot.

Satsuma Cafe is a lovely little spot to grab a coffee drink, fresh juice or quick bite. Their lush little courtyard is adorable with little birds that sit on your table and eat your crumbs. It's just too cute. You can also hit the bargain center before or after for a unique shopping experience that has New Orleans written all over it.

Bywater Bakery was just opened by the head pastry chef for Rouse's markets. Her cakes are to die for but it's also a great place to grab a coffee drink, or a light breakfast. Open 7am-3pm daily with live music every Saturday and Sunday 11am-1pm.

Frady's is the place you go to get an "I need a box of napkins" roast beef po-boy or a "shrimp falling out all over the place" po-boy. Grab it at the counter with an ice cold beer or soda out of the cooler and grab a little table outside. You can hit up the bargain center across the street for a unique shopping experience.

Drinks & Nightlife

BJ's is a local dive bar where there's always an interesting cast of characters. They have live music one or two days a week (Usually Friday and Monday) but the old jukebox is loaded with some of the best music New Orleans has to offer. You never know who you may see here. Robert Plant once just showed up and did a set with one of our beloved local musicians! Cash Only.

J&J's Sports Lounge is hands down the best bar in the neighborhood. They have happy hour prices all the time and some of the friendliest locals you'll meet in the neighborhood. They have a huge selection of beers on tap as well as a wide array of spirits. If there's a game you want to watch, just ask and they'll put it on. There's a pool table, video poker, touchtunes internet jukebox and 7 televisions. They open at 9am and close around 4am (sometimes way later if the bartender feels like it). They also have coffee and tea in the mornings.

One of the country's largest parks is a beautiful place to spend the day. Visit the New Orleans museum of art, canoe or peddle boat around bayou St. John which runs through the park, have beignets at morning call or play a round of mini golf. They also have bicycle rentals and a miniature Choo Choo train that goes around the entire park!

Crescent Park is a scenic walking/biking path that runs from the Bywater neighborhood to the French Quarter. You can enter from the ramp at Mazant & Chartres street or the "rusty rainbow bridge" at Gallier and Chartres street. Relax and stroll along the river with stunning views of the French quarter, Downtown New Orleans and the Mississippi River itself. You'll often catch a glimpse of the Natchez paddleboat, one of many Cruise ships or the tugs and barges that navigate one of the busiest ports in America.

The French Quarter is a place unlike any other in America. The original New Orleans neighborhood is rich with the sights and sounds of the city. You can shop, eat, drink and see live music til you drop. Many spots are open 24 hours so always remember the locals rule of thumb...It's a marathon, not a sprint. :-)

This place is so fun to rummage through. You never know what kind of treasure you might find! It's kind of like a mix of flea market, thrift store, craft market and antique store. It's right next to Frady's corner store (you've gotta get a shrimp po-boy! you can thank me later!) and Satsuma cafe for coffee, fresh made juices and homemade biscuits.
