Parks & Nature

Mount Edgcumbe is an amazing place. Most of Mount Edgcumbe is free to visit and there is something for everyone. You have to pay to park your car, tour the house and visit the house gardens but the rest of the Park is free. There are formal garden, national camellia collection, sweeping lawns, follys, places to eat, little shops, a bat cam, a little sawmill and old fire engines, activities (that you have to pay for), it is next to the sea, there is a duck pond, a deer park (although you will probably only see sheep), cannons and children’s play areas. There are historical costumes to dress up in for men, women and children in the house for an embarrassing photo pretending you are Downton.

There are bio domes if it is raining which are amazing in themselves. Fun and educational. There are seasonal things for the kids like an ice rink in winter.

Interesting house but the grounds are beautiful with lots of room for kids to run. The lawns stretch to the water so there are great views and it is a lovely place for a picnic.

Stunning beach with good surfing and best beach for sandcastles but it is a walk down the cliff. It is probably not possible with a pushchair and I would only recommend it if you have children who are over about 6 as you will not want to carry them. There are many paths down to Whitsand but parking is a bit difficult sometimes (although some farmers do allow parking in fields for about £5). You need to check the tide timetable before going to Whitsand as there is about 3 miles of beach when the tide is out but only a little when the tide is in. Our favourite path down to Whitsand is opposite the Whitsand holiday park. There is a café at the top and the bottom and there is a lifeguard.

You can walk from the beach up the River to Hessenford. It is a lovely walk with a possible otter sighting. You can also visit the beach and there is a café.

Mainly small stone beach but great rock pools. Lovely seaside village with windy streets. A few good pubs and a couple of good little cafes.

Lovely little seaside village with a mainly sandy beach and a nice pub. There is a large carpark with good access to the beach. It is always sheltered so there are never very big waves. You can rock pool and you can hire kayaks and paddleboards. There is a lovely walk from near the car park to Penlee point which is mostly in the shade with a stunning view at the point.
