Food Scene

A hometown secret, Charlie's is old school in its presentation [call and all you'll hear is 'CHAHLIE'S.' with nothing to follow] but delivers knockout pies, and only pies. Nothing but pizza from this place. Thick and doughy crust topped with cheese and sauce and a pound of grated parm, I would add pepperoni and be done with it. Sold in large sizes only, so you'll surely want to get two, maybe 5 pizzas. The view of the Roosevelt blvd is to die for if you dine in.

The wings here live up to the hype and is an easy recommendation. Triple fried and crispier than the colonel would ever dream of making. I love the spicy and special, which you can get split orders of.

You'll find all sorts of excellent Vietnamese cuisine here... except pho. But other places excel in that and fall elsewhere while psy-gone picks up the slack and serves exquisite rice and noodles dishes with solid banh mi [Vietnamese hoagies]. Things I love: Bun thit nuong cha gio [vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and crispy eggrolls] never disappoints with its savory meats and fresh herbs and veggies. Banh mi are one of their signatures and one of my favorites in the city. Banh bot chien [uhhh, egg over flour-paste-thing?] is a surprisingly yummy and hearty meal. They're also heralded for their beef stews and bun bo!

A wealth of Latin cuisine and decor that harkens to old-world South America. The restaurant totally belies its setting, as many are surprised when entering its doors. I love getting the Tamal Colombiano [Colombian tamale], with its soft cornmeal wrapped around stewed chicken and veggies. Another favorite is the Churrasco Argentino [outside skirt steak]. Be sure to ask for chimichurri!

More iconic Vietnamese food within a mile of the house. The noodles and soups that aren't pho are on point here, and their banh mi is fresh and soft. It's tucked away inside of the entrance of the Asian supermarket, so venture forth!

New kid on the block, with modern decor and a solid offering of Vietnamese beef noodle soup. The wait staff is 74% friendlier compared to other Viet restaurants [so, barely].

OG pho restaurant, they've been slinging bowls of soup since before it was cool.

The best Korean BBQ in the area? It may just be. Bring clothes you don't like, you're going to smell like delicious meat when you leave.

It's a sandwich shop with a Latin flair. Killer sandwiches here, and hefty enough to split and still be satisfied.
